I had to select a bunch of arbitrary options above because none of them fit the situation. I'm just pressing space bar to skip the intro videos, but I can wait 5 minutes and if it is just sitting at the main menu, if I touch the keyboard to interact with the game it crashes.

Keyboard: Wooting 60HE
Mouse: Pulsar X2

  • @XiCynxI’m not to familiar with PC. But was going to suggest it’s the wooting keyboard as I’ve seen forum pc expert @SteveJackson  mention it on a number off occasions

  • So apparently after doing some research, it seems that Codemasters has halted  development according to the Wooting Developers and never removed the faulty code attempting to handle their Analog SDK from the game. F1 2018 works fine with the keyboard, it's only F1 '22 and maybe '21 and '20 that incur this issue. Below is from the Dev's in the Wooting Discord talking about it.

Yep, this is definitely the case. Shame Codemasters didn't follow-up or at least remove the broke code from the game years later now. With more and more people acquiring these keyboards, I can definitely see it becoming an escalating issue as time moves on.

@XiCynx I won’t deny I’m a codemasters fanOap. Been playing and enjoying their games for over 30 years. But attention to detail is lacking in many areas unfortunately. Fixing bugs is one off them.

Same man, I've really enjoyed their games, but between Dirt 5 being a stinker and with what seems like the F1 series going backwards since 2018 and their latest Grid games just being mediocre at best, I really think they need to take a step back and remember their original core values. I want them to release something that has a review rating of overwhelmingly positive in the next year or two.

I finally thought I got things sorted out and was online playing in a lobby with about 7 other buddies, and half way through the race the game locked my whole computer up and I had to hard shut it down. Haven't had a game do that in years. Weirdest thing is, the controller was stuck vibrating during the freeze, and when I powered down my computer (totally shut off) the controller KEPT vibrating until I unplugged it, that's some voodoo stuff right there! xD

But after I got everything powered back on I noticed it said 119 minutes played on Steam and I just took that as a sign of not needing to keep the game and put in for a refund. Sadly we'll see how F1 '23 turns out and hopefully they turn the series around.

@XiCynx Bizarre situation I find myself in. Be glad to see the back off this game.. But can’t work out if I’m full of dread or excitement for 23. I’m told it is better. But then the bar isn’t exactly high

    Can’t say fairer than this.

Wooting keyboards will break the game, never made it to the supported device list. Not sure it’s all models but yeah if the code works with some it might have been left in for that reason.

Top and bottom is like any input device such as a wheel or controller the devs can choose to support or not.

I wouldn’t expect support at any time soon as there have been longstanding issues for users of more widely found and listed as supported brands.

Just buy a standard USB keyboard as a workaround. Complaining won’t make you any more likely to receive support. Practical advice, because.

I’m not condoning either position but if that screenshot is a Wooting dev then I would say any agreement between the parties is null and void. Don’t be surprised if this isn’t a team effort, it’s probably individual programmers with a communications breakdown or inability to code their way around the actual issue, whatever it is.
