The reason why F1 22 is so difficult

Hi guys,

I don't know if this is just me, but I think I found the reason why F1 22 is so much harder than say F1 2020...

I'm trying a race in Jeddah right now, and my Aero is maxed, yet still my car sometimes goes into a spin even though I didn't slam the throttle. Same thing with Abu Dhabi, turn 2 tends to send the car sideways if you don't take it easy.

What this sums up to is that the player has far lower levels of grip than the AI have, and therefore, the player is restricted to lower cornering speeds, effectively making the game way harder.

I also feel that due to the super low grip, the steering sensitivity on a controller is far lower than F1 2020, to avoid spinning out too fast. Compare this with said game, if you turn, you turn, but this is just awful, takes like 10 minutes to turn into one fast turn.

What Codemasters could do to compensate (as long as EA lets them, which I doubt because they want a second F1 2021 since it made so much money, therefore it's the only way to make games) is to give the player increased grip and therefore faster turn in on a controller. Might take some rework on the handling, but you can't tell me that a car with maxed Aero and almost maxed Chassis spins out this easily. It's totally unrealistic, because I don't see real drivers having any problems with it whatsoever, therefore the player shouldn't struggle with that as well.

Maybe it's just me, but tell me your opinion in a reply.

- Nico

  • @LuckyNico92 Is max Aero 0 0 or 50 50?
    Off diff is how ya get the car to turn in this game and no good reason I see to be over 53.
    Chassis is RRLL
    Ride height is the MOST important setting to get right I suggest 4/5 in the dry.

    @LuckyNico92

    Since I adjust my steering angle from 280 last year to 440 thanks to @BadMayh3m help, I'm back up to the same AI level as last year on controller.

    But I do still think that the AI don't suffer the same tyre wear as the player, which is down to perfect temps with perfect traction

  • @LuckyNico92 The problem with increasing the grip of the car is that it would also affect the AI cars' on-track performance and then create an imbalance with simulated / off-track AI performance at each difficulty level (i.e. fast-forwarding through sessions, retiring during practice and qualifying). They would have to fix this at every track.

    To me it comes down to inconsistency in the player driving model.  There's things you can do in some turns and on some tracks that just aren't possible in other situations.   Throttle application in the lower gears is still far too inconsistent especially through a long turn under acceleration.  The final turn at Monza I got a wicked snap spin this morning on a qualy lap.  From 5th gear.  Throttle application was fine and consistent in around that 60% range as I was slowly applying throttle out of the turn then one minor steering adjustment and my car just snaps around on me.  No extra throttle applied, just a minor adjustment on the wheel to keep with the turn and around I go.  It's almost never happened to me there unless I mash the throttle down which i can understand.  I find the same thing happens through the opening turns at Miami.  Although there you're accellerating all the way through those S turns so I can understand needing to be careful on the throttle and normally you can be accellerating just fine, no wheel slip but suddenly following through the turn you just snap spin around while the AI cars just power through those turns full out.  It's pretty ridiculous the major difference and inconsistency between the driving model for the player and that of the AI in my opinion.

    If this whole snap spin issue can be resolved or smoothed out the game drives perfect.  It's tougher than last year and I'm fine with that.  Usually if I made a mistake in the past with throttle application hey... it is what it is, driver error.  This year though it's not making any sense how you can be lighter on the throttle accellerating, be accelerating just fine with no grip issues then all of the sudden in the blink of an eye for no apparent reason around you go.  On old worn tyres... I'm 100% in support of that, it makes more sense to me, but on fresh softs... come on. At the speeds it happens too there should be enough downforce generated by the car already to keep it on the track.  Clearly that's the case for the AI cars, so why not the player?

    @LuckyNico92 My fault.
    This is my base online setup I use in BF lobbies where spins happen all the time.
    12/30,70/52, RRLL, 3/1,3/1,4/5 100/50,23.0-F 21.0-R
    Might help
    If I need more speed I decrease both wings by 3 at a time. When I get below 10 in the front I change brake bias to 51 or I cant stop fast enough but that might be just me.
