Tyre wear since 1.06

Hi all,

So since the 1.06 patch, I’ve really struggled with tyre wear. Prior to 1.06 I always had great tyre wear - often 5%+ lower than expected on the race strategy programme for example.

I was in the middle of a MyTeam career when the patch was released, so decided to start another one. Using my custom setup in Bahrain I was getting horrible tyre wear (setup was slightly modified from the standard “increased top speed” setup i.e. nothing is extreme, maybe one or two clicks max either way from the standard).

One thing I noticed in the tyre wear programme was my tyre wear on the straights was horrible, so then thought to use the standard “increased top speed” setup and run the programme again, and got the same effect. I was just about able to get it in the green by the end of the lap. Important to note during the tyre wear programme the temps never go above 95 on any tyre. Practice programme result screenshot attached. Surely with the standard setup the tyre wear should not be red on straights?

Since then, I tried everything to decrease tyre wear (decrease camber, toe, suspension stiffness, ARB stiffness, tyre pressures etc).  I even tried lowest camber and toe, lowest tyre pressures, with middling suspension and ARB values but nothing seems to work to help improve it, and can only just about get the result in the green.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues, or any further thoughts on what else I can do.

Any help is greatly appreciated

  • @Monzstar83 Deleted old saves. Started game clean and then new my team career as I find it sometimes reduces issues due to conflicts with old game saves.

Any how took me 3 laps off Jeddah to pass practice programs purple. First for me as I always pass tyre and fuel ers first lap.

Then Australia wets didn’t last half race distance. Someone with more knowledge than me has posted some helpful wear guides in the last couple off pages off the Greco q&a thread yesterday

Thank you @Meza994. So I need to increase the tyre pressures but make sure they don’t go past 100 to avoid excessive wear? The ideal temp range is now 90-100 according simracingsetups. Will give it a go.

@Monzstar83Perfect carcas temps are 85°-100°, surface temps 85°-115° you want to keep within these but with the highest pressure that keeps even after a couple of laps within these tyres!

Hint: If you know you will only use mediums and hards in the race you can use a bit higher pressures, not much higher though but it adds to it!

Subtle steering helps both tyre temps and tyre wear though but its difficult to train subtle steering while being fast

Thanks @Meza994 for the information, it’s definitely helped bridge my gaps in understanding.

Thankfully I’m pretty smooth with my throttle, braking and steering which is why I was struggling to understand why the wear was so high. I’ve never had to worry about tyre temps or wear before (prior to 1.06 and previous titles), and so I could adjust for my own “feel” as I wished. But now it’s a factor, it’s definitely a challenge I need to get on top of.

Thank you again for the information - will give it a go and see how I get on!

Ok I’m missing something. Was my first monsoon race in this game and for some silly reason I didn’t change my suspension setup and suspension telemetry from my super responsive Jeddah set up.   So  only parc ferne settings were available:  so being wet min pressures.  And it did actually feel like I was running on completely flat tyres.

So restarted race and pumped front tyres to middle pressure and rears 2 clicks higher. And to my surprise traction and handling was vastly improved

Yeah that’s what I was thinking.  But just seems wrong

@ScarDuck14 Regarding the performance yes, its always been wrong in the game but regarding temps its difficult, high pressures definitely lead to higher temps in high wetness which makes the tyres often actually perform better because they would otherwise not be driven fast enough to generate enough heat that way, but the overall temp discussion is more difficult
