Robbie Keane takes over as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur are delighted to announce the appointment of former striker and fan favourite Robbie Keane as our new manager on a 1 and a half year contract. Keane scored 122 goals in 306 games for Tottenham helping the club to win the last piece of silverware when he and Ledley King lifted the League Cup (Carabao Cup). Robbie will be joined by Rory Delap who joins as his assistant manager having worked with Robbie and Fernecvaros and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
What does it mean to you to return to Tottenham Hotspur in a managerial capacity?
I’m delighted to be back here I can’t lie I’m over the moon to be given this chance to manage a club that is so close to my heart and I can’t wait to get started
How do you plan to leverage your legacy and connection with the fans in your new role?
I have a fantastic relationship with the fans here and I hope that continues as I come in as the new manager obviously there will be some who are unhappy that Ange was let go but its the nature of football and I hope they will give me their full support in helping this club move forward
Which playing style do you intend to implement at Tottenham Hotspur?
First things first winning football, we need some positive results the season hasn’t been good enough for a club like Tottenham and my job is to help push them up the table but in the main we want to allow players to express themselves and play football that the fans enjoy but we need to make sure there's a balance there when it comes to playing good football and picking up results
What are your immediate goals for the team as you take over the management role?
I think it has to be first and foremost to win the Europa League. We win the Europa league it puts us in the Champions League and I think that has to be our aim and it is something I will be making sure the players here know Tottenham Hotspur belong in the Champions League this season we won’t get there in the league but the aim moving forwards will be to be competing for the top four every season and before long we’ll be pushing for silverware but there’s a lot of work to be done before then.
You join after a short spell in your last job what made you decide to join Tottenham?
Yeah it was strange sequences of events I took over a couple of months ago but when Tottenham came in for me it was such an easy choice due to my relationship with the fans and the history I have here
Nice, a new joiner [ahum] - Good luck getting the Spurs back up!
