This is a known issue in both career modes of this game. To avoid a problem in the future, when starting a new career, immediately manually create a secondary save file with a different name. What I have done with success, is name the initial file with an appended 'MS' (i.e. Real Madrid MS) just before the career mode starts, and then create the secondary file with an 'AS' at the end, designating auto save (i.e. Real Madrid AS). Whichever file is created last will be the one overwritten by the game going forward, while the other remains in a constant state. During the preseason, I manually save both files at the same time after significant actions occur, for instance, transfers, configuring tactic sheets and formations, etc. Once the season is underway, I manually save both files after every three or four matches, that way, if one of the files is deleted by EA servers or the game engine, the other save will remain intact, and most career mode progress will be saved. If the auto save file is accidentally deleted, then use the 'Load' option, instead of 'Continue' to reenter the game.
