I totally agree. The whole toggling mechanism is complete nonsense, there is no logic sense in there whatsoever. I have changed my settings entirely to manual toggling because with every cross from the opponent, the player that I was controlling and where I was rushing back with to defend, suddenly changed to another random player, making my defending player to head back to the center of the field. And even with all settings to manual, it still switches automatically to another player when you least expect it. Manual toggling is totally random and is bound to switch to a player who is not even near the ball, instead of the player right next to the ball/attacker. Using the right direction's button is as responsive as the passing system: doesn't matter how long or in which direction you aim for, the game does what it feels like doing and decides for itself which player to go to and when. By the time I finally control the player I'm aiming for, the ball is already long in the net.
