Controller only works for squad battles on PC

I don’t know why, but my controller only works when I play squad battles. When I try to play literally anything else it’s like it doesn’t recognize the controller and it forces me to play with my keyboard and mouse. Every time I go to the settings and I try to adjust it to where I only wanna play with my controller. It doesn’t give me this option. I find it really hard to believe that a multi billion dollar industry cannot figure out how to integrate the controller with keyboard and mouse.
