PC shuts down when exiting FC 25

The game runs excellently on my PC and I have not yet experienced any issues, other than when I've finished playing and close the game the entire PC shuts down. No BSOD, no warning, just bam, off and restarting. This happens everytime without fail. I saw from a quick search that this was a big issue with FC 24 and ASUS motherboards - and yes I have an ASUS motherboard. Is there a known fix for this? it's very inconvinient.

  • It does indeed BSOD - I noticed when playing on a second monitor, the first had the blue screen which must have been covered by the game 'crashing to black' when I played on the main one, or something like that. Anyway, any help here please EA? This is really poor.

    Hey @Hrochnick

If you haven't yet we could give the following steps a try:

    1. Run the System File Checker tool, then Check for Windows and GPU updates
    2. Repair the game files in the EA app. Go to the Library and find your game. Click the Manage icon, then click Repair.
    3. Check if any background applications are stopping the EA app or your game.
    4. Perform a clean boot of your PC to disable background tasks that may be interfering with your game.

If this continues would it be possible to get a DxDiag file?

  • Hi Illium, thanks for your answer:

    1. Run the System File Checker toolthen Check for Windows and GPU updates
      • System File Checker tool did find some errors and repaired them. Windows is up to date and the GPU has the latest driver (BIOS is also on the latest version).
    2. Repair the game files in the EA app. Go to the Library and find your game. Click the Manage icon, then click Repair.
      • I did this and the process finished, though I could't tell if it actually repaired any files.
    3. Check if any background applications are stopping the EA app or your game.
      • No obvious ones from the list you linked - but the issue is PC crashing on exiting the game, nothing is preventing it running, it runs very well (although it is rather slow to start up).
    4. Perform a clean boot of your PC to disable background tasks that may be interfering with your game.
      • Done, the game failed to load at all until I re-enabled EA background servcies and EA Anticheat.

The PC still crashes on exiting the game. the BSOD message states "Kernel APC pending during exit", if that helps at all. DxDiag file is attached, thanks again for your help.

  • I see there was an update today... it's still crashing the PC on exit.

  • For anyone interested, I managed to fix this myself, with a little help from Google. The problem is caused by EA's new anticheat messing with the memory/Asus motherboard and is solved by enabling Core Isolation in security settings. See here https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Blue-Screen-of-Death-after-closing-BF2042-FIX-HAS-BEEN-FOUND/td-p/13088702/page/24

You might not have that option available (I didn't) in which case you'll need to enable Virtulisation in your BIOS. Once done, it might not turn on because of a conflict with driver pxhlpa64.sys. This driver seems to be to do with DVD writing (who still does that?!) and can be disabled by renaming it and a little registry edit, see here https://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/184600-pxhlpa64-sys-preventing-core-isolation-3.html#post2472112.

After that, Core Isolation can be turned on and voila, no more BSOD on exiting the game. Happy days.
