PS4 Controller Not Working on PC. Keeps switching to mouse and keyboard

I've tried both usb cable and bluetooth but the game keeps reverting to mouse and keyboard. The controller acts erratic in the menu but it doesnt work in game. It used to work fine where once I used the controller while in the menu, I could see the menu buttons show as, although xbox buttons, controller buttons. For example, if I was using the controller, the bottom left of the screen would show "B Back", "RT FC Hub" etc. Now it's stuck on keyboard instructions. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and disable/enabling the contrller settings in the steam. Nothings working. This is ridiculous
