It does seem unfair at times, sometimes you play an opponent 2 divisions above (I think) but also you may play someone 2 divisions below.
The best thing for enjoyment, is to stay in a division you are comfortable in. Lose games, give free wins so you don't get promoted.
At least you won't get battered every game. That was me not so long ago (I'm over 65) Advice from colleagues in my group was don't get promoted.
Unfortunately there will always be toxic opponents, mainly schoolkids I would guess. Just accept they exist and move onto the next game.
