Content Feedback: Lack of Innovation & Stale Menus in FC 27

Overview:

Every year, EA releases a new title in the franchise, but it essentially boils down to a roster update patch rather than a genuine new game. This contrasts sharply with Konami’s approach with the eFootball PES series. Starting back in 2021, Konami was transparent with its player base by releasing a "Season Update" at a heavily reduced price point, acknowledging that it shared the same core build with minor transfer updates. In stark contrast, EA has stubbornly stuck to the exact same aging engine since FIFA 17—a framework that developers have previously noted is an absolute nightmare to work with, where fixing one bug often spawns new ones due to years of entangled legacy code.

Visual, Audio & UI Stagnation Breakdown:

  • 1. Main Menu: Structurally identical layout, with developers merely swapping out background images and minor color accents.
  • 2. Match Setup & Kit Selectors: The exact same interface structure and workflow, retaining the identical UI flow with superficial background swaps.
  • 3. Tactics & Team Management / Subs Menus: Completely unchanged layout and design, leaving even the background visuals virtually untouched.
  • 4. Ultimate Team & Season Pass Hubs: Reusing the exact same framework, relying strictly on promotional asset swaps and slight color tints.
  • 5. In-Game Visuals & Scoreboard: Zero noticeable improvements to lighting, atmosphere, or match presentation. Even the basic scoreboard remains 100% identical to previous years.
  • 6. Stale Commentary Teams: The commentary audio and roster remain virtually untouched for extended periods, carrying over the same stagnation we previously highlighted regarding the Arabic commentary drought spanning 9 years since FIFA 18:

  • 7. Absence of Magic Event Themes & Walkouts: The game sorely lacks the creative spark of custom event themes and unique walkout animations that once defined past titles, an issue we broke down here:

Impact on Player Experience:

  • Severe Monotony and Fatigue: Reusing the same menus, commentary, and presentation year after year creates a stale experience where players feel like they are paying full price for a simple theme update.
  • Lack of Modern UI/UX Evolution: Failing to redesign or innovate core navigation menus leaves the game feeling unpolished and outdated.

Recommended Action:

EA needs to invest in a complete UI/UX overhaul, audio/commentary refresh, the return of custom event themes, and engine modernization for future titles, delivering genuine innovations rather than just shifting color palettes each year.
