EA FC needs a “Living Football” system — make the game actually feel alive
I've played EA SPORTS FC for years, and there is something I genuinely believe could take the series to another level.
I'm not talking about simply better graphics, more Ultimate Team content, or adding two or three new animations every year.
I'm talking about making FC understand what is happening.
Football isn't just 22 players running around a realistic pitch. Football is emotion, personality, fatigue, pressure, relationships, atmosphere, momentum and unexpected moments.
FC already looks realistic in many ways, but sometimes it doesn't feel realistic because so many things are fixed, repetitive and predictable.
We are approaching 2027. I think the next major step should be creating a Living Football system where the players, commentary, atmosphere and Career Mode continuously react to what is actually happening.
---
1. Players need genuine, contextual emotions
This is probably one of the biggest missing pieces.
Imagine a Champions League final.
Your team is losing 1–0. Your striker has missed three big chances and is visibly frustrated.
Then, in the 88th minute, he scores.
I don't want the exact same celebration I've seen hundreds of times.
I want to see him scream, release the frustration, react differently because of what happened earlier in the match, and have his teammates react to him.
Then imagine scoring again in the 90+5th minute.
The entire atmosphere should change.
Players should be able to visibly show:
- happiness
- frustration
- anger
- disappointment
- nervousness
- confidence
- relief
- exhaustion
- sadness
- excitement
And these emotions should affect their body language and animations.
A player who has just missed a huge chance could put his hands on his head.
A player who has been substituted could look frustrated.
A player who has just scored a winning goal could sprint towards the supporters screaming.
A player who has lost a final could sit on the pitch, put his head down or struggle to contain his emotions.
The losing team should react too.
Losing a Champions League final should not produce the exact same emotional response as losing a league match in October.
---
2. Make players behave naturally instead of constantly repeating animations
There are so many tiny things real footballers do that FC rarely captures naturally.
Players adjust their hair.
Fix their shirts.
Pull their socks up.
Adjust tape.
Touch their boots.
Wipe sweat from their faces.
Talk to teammates.
Look frustrated after a mistake.
Look at the scoreboard.
Look towards the bench.
Argue with opponents.
Laugh with teammates.
Celebrate with specific players.
These things shouldn't necessarily be scripted animations that happen at exactly the same moments.
They should happen naturally and contextually.
Even something as simple as players looking physically exhausted would make a massive difference.
After an intense 90 or 120 minutes, players should be breathing heavily, sweating, walking slowly, putting their hands on their knees and visibly recovering.
If a player has been sprinting constantly, that should actually look different from a player who has barely moved.
The game shouldn't just calculate fatigue as a number.
Show me the fatigue.
---
3. AI-driven commentary could completely transform Career Mode
This is one area where I think AI could genuinely be revolutionary.
Instead of commentary relying so heavily on predetermined lines, imagine the game analysing what is happening and creating relevant observations.
For example:
A player has scored in five consecutive matches.
The commentators mention his scoring streak.
A defender has made 12 interceptions.
They notice.
A striker has gone eight matches without scoring and finally scores the winner.
They understand the story behind the goal.
A player has been underperforming for several weeks.
The discuss his form.
A young player makes his debut and scores his first goal.
They recognise the occasion.
A team comes back from 3–0 down.
The commentary reacts to the comeback.
A goalkeeper has saved three penalties this season.
That becomes part of the narrative.
A player is performing brilliantly in the Champions League but struggling domestically.
The commentators can actually point that out.
And imagine the commentary mentioning specific players rather than constantly talking about the same generic situations.
Tht is where AI could be incredibly useful.
Not AI for the sake of saying, "We have AI."
AI that actually understands the football match, statistics, context and story and uses that information to create natural commentary.
It should feel like having an intelligent football analyst watching your career.
---
4. The commentary should be unpredictable
This is important.
One of the things that makes watching real football exciting is that you don't know exactly what the commentators are going to say.
They react to what happens.
Imagine playing an entire Career Mode season and occasionally hearing commentary you've never heard before because you created a situation the game hasn't seen before.
That would make me want to keep playing.
I'd start thinking:
"What are they going to say about this player?"
"Will they mention his scoring streak?"
"Will they talk about our comeback?"
"Will they notice that this is his first Champions League goal?"
Suddenly, Career Mode has a feeling of discovery.
---
5. Player Career should actually feel like a LIFE
Player Career has enormous potential, but too much of the experience currently revolves around what happens on the pitch.
Your player should exist outside the match.
Imagine having meaningful systems for:
- sleep
- recovery
- nutrition
- fitness
- happiness
- confidence
- frustration
- social life
- training
- relationships
- manager trust
- teammate relationships
- reputation
These shouldn't just be numbers on a menu.
They should influence the player.
If I don't recover properly, I should feel tired.
If I train consistently and maintain good habits, my fitness should improve.
If I constantly overtrain without resting, fatigue and injury risk should increase.
If I'm unhappy or frustrated, that could affect confidence and performance.
If I'm performing brilliantly, my confidence should grow.
If I'm performing badly for several matches, my manager could lose trust in me.
This could even affect how my player looks and moves over time.
---
6. Let us actually communicate with teammates
This could make Player Career incredible.
Imagine being able to communicate with teammates during matches.
Calling for the ball.
Asking for a run.
Telling someone to mark an opponent.
Encouraging a teammate after a mistake.
Complaining when someone repeatedly ignores you.
Celebrating with a specific teammate after scoring.
Those relationships could develop throughout your career.
A teammate you constantly assist could become one of your closest teammates.
A player you constantly argue with could develop a rivalry with you.
A teammate who helped you when you were struggling could become someone your player trusts.
And the game should remember those interactions.
Imagine leaving a club after five seasons and returning years later to play against an old teammate.
The game could recognise that history.
That would make fictional players feel like actual people instead of AI-controlled players who reset emotionally after every match.
---
7. Managers should react to what you actually do
Your overall rating shouldn't determine everything.
A 79-rated player who has been terrible for five matches shouldn't automatically start over a 72-rated player who has been performing brilliantly.
Managers should consider:
- recent form
- training performance
- fitness
- tactical discipline
- work rate
- goals and assists
- defensive contribution
- team chemistry
- position
- previous performances
If you're unhappy about being dropped, you should be able to speak to your manager.
If you keep ignoring tactical instructions, the manager should become frustrated.
If you consistently perform well, your manager should trust you with bigger responsibilities.
Eventually you could become a leader, captain or important player within the squad.
Your career should feel like something you earned, not something automatically given to you because your overall rating increased.
---
8. Your physical condition should actually affect gameplay
This is something that could make Player Career much deeper.
Imagine your player is:
fully rested + confident + fit
He should feel sharp.
First touch is better.
Movement is more energetic.
Decision-making is more confident.
Now imagine:
exhausted + poor recovery + low confidence
You could feel the difference.
Slower reactions.
Heavier movement.
Poorer concentration.
More mistakes.
And this shouldn't become frustrating or unrealistic. It should simply create another layer of football management.
If I know I have a huge Champions League match coming up, I should actually have to prepare for it.
That's what professional footballers do in real life.
---
9. Make trophies and awards actually feel important
Winning the Champions League should feel like winning the Champions League.
There should be a proper presentation:
- Man of the Match
- individual awards
- medals
- players receiving medals
- trophy presentation
- captain lifting the trophy
- teammates celebrating
- photographers
- supporters reacting
- losing players showing disappointment
- changing-room celebrations
And please make these moments dynamic.
Your first major trophy should feel different from your tenth.
A domestic cup should feel different from a Champions League final.
A 90+5' winner should feel different from a comfortable 4–0 victory.
There should also be proper recognition for individual performances.
If my player scores a hat-trick in a Champions League final, I want the game to recognise that.
Don't just give me another generic trophy cutscene.
Make me feel like I actually achieved something.
---
10. Authenticity is in the tiny details too
These things may seem insignificant, but they matter.
Competition and club armbands should look accurate.
For example, when a player wears a club-specific armband alongside a competition armband, they should actually layer and overlap naturally rather than looking like tiny generic bands floating on the arm.
Players should have changing hairstyles and facial hair.
Boots and accessories should evolve.
Kit sleeves, socks, tape and other equipment should look authentic.
These are tiny things, but real football broadcasts are full of them.
When I watch a real match, I notice those details without even thinking about them.
That's what FC should replicate.
---
11. Make the atmosphere respond to the match
The crowd shouldn't simply react because a goal happened.
The atmosphere should develop.
A derby should feel different.
A Champions League semifinal should feel different.
A relegation battle should feel different.
A comeback should make the stadium progressively louder.
A late equaliser should create tension.
A last-minute winner should create absolute chaos.
If your team has been dominating for 20 minutes, the crowd should react differently from when you've been completely under pressure.
And the players should respond to that atmosphere too.
The stadium should feel like it is part of the match, not just the background.
---
12. Career Mode should create stories instead of just seasons
This is ultimately what I'm asking for. I don't want every Career Mode save to feel like:
Match → training → transfer → match → trophy → repeat.
I want the game to create stories based on what I actually do. Two people could start with the exact same player and end up with completely different careers. One could become a club legend.
Another could struggle with injuries. Another could lose his starting position and fight his way back. Another could become captain.
Another could fall out with a teammate and eventually reconcile. Another could score a last-minute Champions League winner that changes his reputation.
The game should remember these things.
---
The bigger idea: make FC understand what is happening
I don't think EA needs to completely reinvent the football game.
The foundation is already there.
The graphics are there.
The stadiums are there.
The player scans are there.
The kits are there.
The licences are there.
The gameplay foundation is there.
But the world needs to react.
Instead of asking:
"How can we make FC look more realistic?"
I think the next question should be:
"How can we make FC feel alive?"
Use AI and advanced simulation to create dynamic:
emotions + commentary + relationships + physical states + reactions + atmosphere + presentation + career stories.
I would genuinely be willing to pay more for a game that delivered this properly.
Because at that point, it wouldn't feel like I was buying another yearly football game.
It would feel like I was buying an entire football career.
The technology is moving forward quickly. FC doesn't need AI just to advertise that it uses AI.
It needs AI to make the football world notice, remember and react to the things the player does.
That's what would make me care about my career.
That's what would make me play one more match.
That's what would make me remember a save years later.
And that's what I believe could make EA SPORTS FC feel genuinely alive.
