FC 27 feels less responsive when sprinting and changing direction with the ball

After playing FC 27, my first impression of the gameplay has unfortunately been disappointing.

One of the biggest issues for me is how players behave when running with the ball.

When I beat a defender and accelerate into space, changing direction can cause my player to briefly slow down or enter a small transition animation before accelerating again. This interrupts the momentum of the run and frequently allows a defender who was already beaten to recover.

The problem is particularly noticeable because it does not always feel related to a bad decision or incorrect input. I can create an advantage through positioning or timing, but then lose that advantage because the ball carrier does not respond immediately when changing direction.

In a football game, especially in competitive modes such as Ultimate Team, responsiveness is extremely important. If I successfully beat a defender, the defender should not be able to recover simply because my player enters an unnecessary hesitation or transition animation.

I understand that changing direction while sprinting should naturally involve some loss of speed. I am not asking for players to change direction at full speed unrealistically. The issue is the feeling of a noticeable pause between the directional input and the player’s next acceleration.

I would like EA to review:

  • Responsiveness when changing direction while carrying the ball at speed.
  • The transition between dribbling, turning and accelerating.
  • Whether some animations are unnecessarily interrupting player momentum.
  • The balance between realistic inertia and responsive controls.
  • How quickly defenders can recover after an attacker has successfully created separation.

Overall, FC 27 currently feels too close to FC 26 while some aspects of ball carrying actually feel less responsive.

I believe the gameplay would benefit greatly from prioritizing immediate and predictable player response while still maintaining realistic movement and momentum.

This is not about making dribbling easier. It is about making player input feel consistent and ensuring that an advantage created through good timing and positioning is not unnecessarily lost because of a transition animation.

My main concern is that the game feels extremely similar to FC 26. For a new yearly release, I expected a more noticeable evolution in gameplay, responsiveness and player movement. At the moment, I do not feel that difference strongly enough.

  • I’ve also noticed another issue related to sprinting and knocking the ball forward into space. Sometimes, while I’m already sprinting at full speed and knock the ball ahead to run onto it, my player suddenly slows down almost to a complete stop instead of continuing the sprint. It almost feels like the player gets stuck or “bogged down” for a moment. After that, the player starts accelerating again, but much more slowly, which completely kills the momentum of the run and allows defenders to catch up.

This happens even when the player has plenty of stamina, so it does not appear to be related to fatigue. I have also experienced it in offline matches on the same console, so it does not seem to be caused by connection or network delay.

It is especially frustrating because it often happens in exactly the situations where you have open space in front of you and should be able to use the player’s pace. Instead, after knocking the ball forward, the player occasionally seems to get stuck in an incorrect animation and simply does not accelerate properly.

This feels like a bug or an animation-transition issue rather than intended inertia, and I think it should be investigated alongside the other sprinting and responsiveness problems.
