High Ping in North Africa: Unused AWS & Google Cloud Infrastructure
Issue Overview:
Year after year, players across North Africa face a persistent infrastructure crisis characterized by high ping, severe latency issues, and constant "Unstable Connection" warnings. Competing against European players under these conditions is structurally unfair due to the massive geographical distance and the continuous absence of active local game data centers in the region.
The Infrastructure Paradox (Unused Regional Cloud Nodes):
EA predominantly relies on cloud giants like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud. However, geographical infrastructure audits reveal an ironic paradox: AWS and Google infrastructure/edge nodes already exist in North African hubs (such as Cairo and Rabat), yet they remain completely unused by EA for game matchmaking. Currently, players in Egypt average between 48 to 70 ms ping when routing to distant European servers. Activating these pre-existing local endpoints would drastically cut regional latency.
Local Infrastructure Alternatives in Egypt & Technical Comparison to AWS:
If EA faces any deployment limitations with its current AWS/Google setup in the region, relying on local Tier-III enterprise alternatives in Egypt is an immediately viable solution. Egypt serves as a global digital crossroads (handling massive international subsea cable traffic) and hosts world-class data centers that match AWS and Google Cloud in hardware capability, bandwidth, and reliability:
- Telecom Egypt Regional Data Hub (RDH): The largest Tier-III certified data center facility in Egypt (certified by the Uptime Institute for design, facility, and operations). It is directly connected to over 14 international subsea cables, offering massive multi-terabit bandwidth and direct routing capabilities.
- Equinix (GPX Cairo) Data Centers: Operated by the global interconnection giant Equinix, GPX Cairo provides carrier-neutral, enterprise-grade infrastructure with 99.999% uptime and ultra-low latency local internet exchange points.
- Hyperscale Cloud Hubs (e.g., Khazna & New Administrative Capital Data Centers): Massive multi-megawatt facilities equipped with high-frequency bare-metal servers, advanced cooling, and redundant power architectures.
Capacity & Efficiency Assessment: Technically and by all industry estimates, these local Egyptian facilities possess the exact same enterprise server architecture, DDoS mitigation, and high-throughput networking as standard AWS European zones. They are more than capable of hosting FC 27 dedicated game servers and handling peak concurrent player loads across Egypt and North Africa with sub-15ms local ping.
The Economic Reality & Player Value:
Beyond technical feasibility, a severe economic factor must be addressed. Due to exchange rate disparities and low local wages, purchasing this game requires immense financial sacrifice. For many players in our region, this is the sole video game they can afford all year, serving as their primary source of entertainment. Players who overcome severe financial hurdles to buy the game at full price deserve a stable, fair gaming experience that respects their loyalty and investment.
Recommended Action:
Stop overlooking the massive North African community. EA must either activate its unused AWS/Google Cloud presence in Cairo and Rabat or partner directly with premier local infrastructure providers in Egypt (such as Telecom Egypt RDH or Equinix Cairo) to deploy dedicated regional servers immediately.
