FIFA Right Stick: What has changed since FIFA 13?

I just recently got to play FIFA 23 and had a major problem using the right stick feature to select players. I mean, as far as I can remember, back in FIFA 13 the right stick switching was way more simpler. With a single flick you get the player you wish to select. Now in FIFA 23 (I honestly don't know about FC 24 & 25), it is way much more difficult to select the right player with it. I have tried all the possible settings and watch every tutorial on Youtube with no significant impact at all.

If I'm playing on a Beginner or Amateur difficulty that's fine. However once I jumped up to Pro and World Class it's just a total mess as the AI can penetrate the defense line much faster. At the moment, I don't dare to even try Legendary, even though I used to play FIFA 14 in Legendary with no much trouble.

Am I correct to say that the right stick switching has evolved since FIFA 13? If yes, how much has it evolved?
