Can't play H2H with friends

Every time I try to play with a friend on Madden 24 their name isn't highlighted on my xbox x when I go to play a friend. I've looked at all my settings and can't find anything wrong. I've looked on Reddit and everywhere else and can't figure out what the problem is. Any help would be appreciated
