Madden 24 Franchise Contracts

How exactly does the bonus affect a teams cap situation when a player is cut/traded? Is there a difference between a cut and a trade?

My understanding is that if you cut or trade a player the "penalty" you are responsible for on your cap is the player's bonus money.

When you aquire a player in trade you do not inherit the player's bonus. This potentially saves you a lot of money and also makes it easier to trade the player later because you will not have any "penalty" $ hit your cap for doing so.

I believe what season the penalty money hits your cap depends on how many years are left on the players contract with the majority hitting the first season.

  • What have have found is I still have the bonus after I trade a for player.  In 23, I always traded a higher player with less years for a good player with a ton of years left and then built them up.  But in 25, I did that and still had the same overall salary and bonus.  I did this like 5-6 times before I realized it and now I’m screwed.
