FIX (for anyone who had this other issue like me)
Trying to buy points under $50 wouldn't work, and ended up stopping my EA app from working. These steps worked for me...

windows>add or remove programs>find EA app>click uninstall>click repair.

Fixed it right up, and now I could get into the app to then buy the points via madden store (which transferred in game).
