pass blocking

EA,

Please fix pass blocking. Sliders do not help. Getting way too many sacks for the HUM and CPU.

  • You have to change the CPU Pass Blocking. It helps your O-Line as well. Try it with 50. Did it yesterday.

I play on AA and have been all over the place with sliders. Even at 100 it doesn't stop all the sacks. Frustrating as it is ruining the game for me. Every time EA updates with a patch something else gets jacked up. Pass blocking has always been an issue, but now it is worse. The number of TFL and sacks in this game is crazy. If anyone knows how to fix it please chime in. I am going to go back to 50 and see how it works again. But that is where I had it before the patch. Thanks for the reply.

  • the User Slider for Pass Blocking doesnt work. The only way to better the Pass Blocking of your Oline is through CPU Pass Blocking. I dont know why it is like this, but I tested it like I wrote in a post 2 days ago.

In our league we tested a bit with 40 CPU pass Blocking but CPU was pretty good with it and your own Oline was not that good. Then with 50 CPU Pass Blocking and that was pretty good. for the CPU team it doesnt felt OP and your own Oline blocked good enough.

@TheGermanLukeLP it would be extremely helpful if EA was more transparent with how sliders work to begin with, being far more specific with what does and affects what.
  • @GVRH yeah 100% and I think that the Sliders shouldnt work like they are working now. Because why they give the option to change some things (User Run Blocking, User Pass Blocking, User Pass Coverage, User Pass Defense Reaction Time) that have 0 Impact.

@TheGermanLukeLP I mean, just the fact that there's confusion about what defines as User controlled and CPU shows that there's next to no transparency about how these sliders impact game. From my understanding, user sliders affected user teams, while CPU affected the opposite. But when we somehow have CPU blocking, tackling, etc., affecting CPU players on user teams, it just shows how little of an effort has been made by EA to explain how these impact gameplay. They really need to make and release a video about these at some point. Or, at least fill some content creators in on what's up and have them do it. The neglect within this game is awful...
  • @cwkizer9812 I'll preface this response with "I only play online Regs and never touch AI sliders for human or CPU (all at 50)." If that disqualifies the rest of my post, I understand...

I find it odd that no one on the thread mentioned adding protection by blocking a back, changing the formation, motioning a TE, sliding protection, or the huge number of other things that reduce sacks tactically... It's all slider talk. So I have questions about how you guys are playing to look for answers to pass blocking in the sliders before making tactical changes.

Because I played a lot of games and it cant be that if you play plays with 6 or 7 player blocking that still someone can get through in 1 second and can sack you. Sometimes PlayAction feels so bugged because even if you block so many players you dont even have time to throw a pass.

@TheGermanLukeLP I play with the Panthers and haven't run a play from Shotgun in 20 years. Blocking 6 or 7 helps with protection, but only if those extra protectors are in a position to pick up rushers.

I love the Far, Near, and I-Form. They are the best under-center formations for keeping the QB on his feet. The FB (or in my case a TE at H-Back), is in perfect position to pick up the only legit pressure that will prevent a pass offense from getting a pass away.

Tactically speaking, every strategy consists of personnel, position, and tempo. Thus, there's a mismatch or some sort in the personnel and/or position that cause the tempo disadvantage. So my questions become:

    Are you being outnumbered?

If the defense rushes 6 when you're only blocking 5, it's the QB's job to beat the 6th rusher by either moving the pocket or throwing the ball quickly. But if two rushers are coming free, you'll need extra blockers or a quicker throw.

Is the pressure coming from the same defender or same gap?

If that's the case, use formations that allow the help to block the trouble defender or gap. If you aren't sure which formations protect the gaps you need blocked, motion a player to the gap you need covered.

Are you dropping back too far for your protection? If you drop deeper than a 7-step drop from under center, you're stressing your tackles. The deeper you drop, the less likely your tackles can stay between you and a rushing DE. If so, use the Auto Drop function and make sure you step up by moving the stick forward.

I could definitely do a better job a reading pass rushes and picking up the extra guy. For the HUM, my 84 rated DE already has 19 sacks on the season. That is with me trying different CPU pass blocking adjustments on the slider. Right now I am at 50. If EA made the sliders a lot more sensitive, I think we should be able to fix some of the issues we are seeing in the game. Thanks for all the response to my questions. Definitely got some good feedback.
