Head to head Super Bowl glitch

Was recently in the Super Bowl and my opponent decided to pause and keep messaging me through chat. Next thing I know I was kicked back to the main menu out of ultimate team and it marked it as a loss on my head to head seasons. Why can’t this game just work?
