FA/Traded players dont show up as available sub options (franchise)

Playing franchise,  I picked up a player in pre season via trade. I tried moving him up in the depth chart as a MIKE but hes a WILL and only shows up in the WILL position group. 

Additionally, I tried to sub him in different packages, and he doesn't show up as an option; like he doesn't exist.
