The trench battle is horrible there's no way to get gold you just get locked on the linemen. I'm trying to level up my lower level players and it seems impossible to get gold for.

Are you talking about the normal one? Or the long haul?
Either way strategy is the same. Make sure you run over all the x2s on the field, use the right stick to juke the blocker, just before tackling the QB press R1/RB to attempt a strip. A fumble isn't required, but it makes it a bit easier.
For the short one, I'm able to get 4k points regularly. Sometimes I get gold after the second attempt so I don't even need to do the third attempt.
it's totally doable, just gotta practice.
Both of them, my defender gets locked on the linemen and im not able to move at all or do swim/rip/bull moves to get around the O Linemen.
