TOTY Winner Token

I just recently acquired a TOTY winner token by exchanging 65 of the required tokens. I have now come to realise that this effort was pointless as the TOTY winner token cannot be submitted into any set that is currently available in Madden 26 Ultimate Team. I am wondering why I was able to still claim the token if I am not able to use the token on any current set. Is this a bug in the game or left there on purpose
