Coaching Staff Depth for Franchise

Madden 24 seems like the an ideal time to improve franchise and other game modes by adding depth to coaching staffs. These suggestions could help to make every franchise unique and add drama to franchise storylines.

1. Profiles should be built for all Head Coaches and Offensive/Defensive Coordinators including age, coaching history (as HC or Coordinator), win/loss records of the teams they coached, playoff milestones (make playoffs with a bad/average team, 1st round bye, conference champion, Super Bowl winner, etc.), and schemes.

2. Efficiency metrics should also be tracked, especially for coordinators. Young-middle aged coordinators with consecutive years of efficient performance on their side of the ball should become head coaching candidates.

3. The most coveted candidates should be ranked through the season and have news stories covering their performance.

4. Coaches on the hot seat should be listed and their team’s record throughout the season should be tracked along with news stories. Teams that consistently underperform multiple years should put their coaches on the hot seat and coaches should have an increased risk of being fired after big losses (à la the Colts firing Frank Reich after a 3-26 loss to the Patriots)

5. When a coach is fired it should be a big deal (mid season and “black Monday” firings, multiple news stores, comments from in game announcers).

6. Fired coordinators should be replaced, and Head Coaches should be replaced with Interim Head Coaches with a chance to prove themselves and potentially be hired in the offseason.

7. Coordinators should also be added to the hot seat if the team is underperforming on their side of the ball. They should be at risk for being fired mid season.

8. User controlled coordinators that have shown consistency on their side of the ball, part of a team that reached playoff milestones, and/or users have invested a lot of staff points into should become highly coveted coaching candidates and aggressively poached by other teams. Users should have to spend staff points to keep these coaches.

9. Older coordinators with previous HC history should be hired as HCs less frequently.

10. Coach/coordinator retirement should be more noticeable with alerts and supporting news coverage.

11. Coaches and coordinators hired on new teams should frequently fill open roster spots with players from previous teams they coached, if available.

12. Coaching profiles should be accessible in a new coach hiring menu where you can view profiles and offer contracts to coaches on staff mid season and hire free agent coordinators.

13. Off-season coaching hires should be competitive and coaches should have interest that weigh their decision to sign similar to players some interests could include: Salary offered, length of contract, cap room, franchise QB on roster, value of draft picks, playoff team, etc.

14. Owners, players, and media should play roles in user coach storylines. Owners interactions create scenarios that impact job security and earning staff points. The media creates scenarios that impact job security and player morale. Player interactions impact player morale and dev trait opportunities.

15. Owners can threaten user coaches on the hot seat with must win games

16. Owners can try to push you out if a coveted coordinator is on your staff, other top coordinators are interested in your job and you fail to reach playoff milestones.

17. Owners will try to influence user coaches to start/bench players due to performance, overall, popularity, salary. Taking the owners recommendation should help job security. Going against the owner and losing should hurt job security.

18. Users should be able to play as a coordinator and only control players, roster moves, depth chart moves, and scouting on their side of the ball.

19. User controlled coordinators that become Head Coach candidates should have access to quickly view the offer, roster, player salaries, draft picks, team record, and other data to influence where they sign.

20. Computer controlled head coaches with minimal experience should have breakdowns in situational football scenarios (late game clock management, questionable play-calling on 3rd and 4th downs, etc.)
