Forum Discussion
I see a lot of people complaining about madden 22 on the internet so I wanted to start this to see what other people thought were some positives and negatives to Madden 22 to generate a stable, constructive discussion on things we're enjoying and things we don't like so much, constructively.
Positives
- Another year and it seems like they've really refined the player movement system, from the past 2 years I think they've made it easier and more intuitive to move the players in a realistic manner.
- QB accuracy/throwing seems to be a little better this year, I have had more passes overthrown and out the back of the endzone instead of being underthrown every time. I hope this can continue to be refined.
- They added depth to franchise and have a base to build out more.
- They've added a lot more stats, even if they aren't the next gen stats they have a lot more info about yourself and the other team as you plan for weekly strategy
Negatives
- Hearing a lot about bugs, now I have been relatively ok, but it's always tough to hear.
- They didn't add an OL/blocking mechanic additions after last years DL animations were added. Would be cool to be able to play every position in the NFL, meaningfully.
- Creation zone is still lacking.
- Lack of change to create a team, no new changes and/or depth was added to this portion.
- Create a player still hard to rely on CPU but full control lacks immersion
I know there's a lot more and I hope people can have a meaningful discussion about Madden 22!
Thanks for making the game and allowing us to play it

This is BS year after year we get a worse and worse version of madden they are too busy making the game look good and futuristic that u can’t run the ball, throw the ball, snap, run after the ball without animations. It’s ridiculous I didn’t pay 60 dollars or watch madden I want to play it the players should move in the direction of the stick not juke to 7 different sides then move in the direction I point it.
STOP TRYING TO MAKE THE GAME LOOK GOOD, TRY MAKING IT PLAY GOOD THEN MAKE IT LOOK GOOD!
No-one should buy this game, but sadly they have a MONOPOLY over football video games so u don’t have a choice if u want an updated roster.
MADDEN STOP WASTING OUR TIME AND MONEY AND MAKE US A GOD DAMN FOOTBALL GAME NOT JUST DANCE!
Thank you,
This was probably pointless

@ajdavidson18, I found your post spot on and thank you for your post. Unless they actually start holding people accountable and take pride in what they do, we will continue to get the same EA Masters of the cut and paste and not deliver NFL Authenticity.

The bugs, soft freezes and crashes are a real thing this year. But it's not just Madden. I play sports games across the board, and it's everywhere. NBA 2K is a notable exception, but they make enough money off micro transactions they have the resources to get out front.
I think the real issue may be a lot of game developers are still figuring out how to write software compatible with next-gen consoles, and the pandemic isn't helping that.
I'm not giving these guys a pass. If you say your game can do X, Y and Z you shouldn't release it until it can. And you CERTAINLY should not brush aside thousands of people complaining about the same problems by telling them to "power cycle their consoles" or "unplug extra accessories." I mean, c'mon.
But yeah, this is a real problem because people who had their lives or wallets disrupted in the past 18 months still dig in to buy these games, so they shouldn't have to deal with this extra frustration.
I would prefer EA consolidate or eliminate certain features/modes (staring at you, FoTF) to get more quality than throw stuff at the wall and see what stick.
#ignoretheroots, and the tree dies ... Guys who can offer constructive opinions like this are the roots
- DyeusVita5 years agoNew Hotshot@Masher_Smasher I was part of the toxic culture on here until I got help, madden can be a toxic community & there is a lot of noise that people generate that doesn’t help focus the support of madden. We can have criticisms of the game but unless we can constructively discuss what we dislike and like the developers don’t have much to go own about the next game.
Being said, Ya I feel like there’s always issues around next gen releases and the pandemic didn’t make it any easier.
That’s why one of my suggestions was to make the game free 2 play for exhibition/h2h & then make the game paid for the other modes. That way they can split the product cycles for the physics engine by releasing different variations of ideas they have as betas & then also have another cycle for the development to the actual depth they add on top of the physics engine.- 5 years ago
@DyeusVita, @Masher_Smasher, I am also guilty of toxic culture when it comes to Madden, it is very difficult to keep a calm head with the blatant cut and paste that has been done over the years and very good content being removed. I play Madden for Franchise mode and would be very happy to see MUT, The Yard, FOTF, and anything else not related to Franchise mode removed completely or make them their own games and sell them that way, when you have so many different pieces you are going to take away from others and it has been showing more and more every year.
I for one cannot fathom how anyone associated with the development and programming of Madden can be proud to say they do.
In this day and age gaming companies are releasing games in Pre-Alpha or not even complete and have the actual customers pay to be their testers instead of having it done before launch or release. Their does not seem to be accountability or anyone taking pride in their work or games anymore, I mean why should they, they are getting paid and got their money.
Constructively, all anyone who works at EA, developers or programmers or anyone has to do is just launch and play the game and they will definitely see what they can do to make the game better.

How do these people get paid to develop this game? I've tried giving it time and seeing if the bugs just get corrected, but it's very clear that EA doesn't care about this game or their customers.
1. The entirety of the "revamped" Franchise mode is just wrapping paper. Same crap, but just looks prettier. No new relocation teams. Scouting is exactly the same. Player upgrades are the same. Same exact X-Factor player trash talking in text messages. Same exact questions from the media. IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME!!! EA seriously thinks that we don't notice that? Or do they straight up not care? I'm thinking it's the latter.
2. Anytime we try to do a head to head game (in online franchise) while in "Player Mode," the camera will just continuously circle the stadium, when it loads in, and never let us play. No, live playbooks aren't on. No, neither of us are using a created playbook. YES, EA Sports just sucks.
3. QB's still fumble when someone breathes on them
4. Certain players still hit stick, literally every time they tackle someone (BECAUSE THAT IS REAL LIFE-LIKE, right?)
5. Can't change the eyebrows on your player, when you bring him into Franchise mode
FIX YOUR GAME!!! I'm over it. I am done buying these games. Total waste of money. I've tried to be a voice of reason and say things will get better, but I'm 100% over all of that. I'm DONE.

You are 100% correct, I have tried time and time again to give it a chance and its just terrible. H2H games are a crapshoot, are your DB going to cover, are your LB going to randomly blitz, is their QB going to scramble outside then throw it across his body 40 yards to a wide open WR. Dont get me started on the QB slide, once the QB is in motion of the slide THATS IT! not Hit him and force a fumble. EA knows its trash but hold ALL the power in their hands. They are making money hand over fist with MUT and no longer care about other game modes. Just another COPY and PASTE game. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Majority of these needs are for Franchise Mode
Contracts!
- Add Restricted Free Agents (RFA) and Exclusive Rights Free Agents (ERFA)
- For those who don't know what this means, it's a different type of contract you can give players depending on how long someone’s been in the NFL.
- Less than 3 years in the league ERFA
- Exactly 3 years in the league RFA
- With the RFA, you'll have the options of 1st round tender, 2nd round tender, original round tender and the right of first refusal tender.
- With the ERFA, it's just a minimum salary depending on how long they've been in the league.
- The franchise computer will know when someone has only played less than 3 seasons in the NFL. These contracts will help franchise users contract the salary cap better and it'll be more realistic.
- Outside of Franchise mode, allow us to edit contracts in the edit rosters. And the development traits!
- Bring back the 5th year option! I'm not sure if it's a bug to start the new madden season, but it's not there and 1st round picks are having expired contracts after 4 years.
- Restructured Contracts Option! This is the most frustrating thing that is not possible in Madden Franchise. Something that you see on a yearly basis.
- Add a feature where you can ask a player to restructure and depending on their loyalty to the team that they'd either accept or request a trade.
- Restructuring is just making a certain amount of their contract guaranteed which doesn't count towards the cap.
- Spotrac's website has a great chart for what the League's minimum salaries will look like for the next 10 years. Veterans minimum contract!
- Be more realistic with "fair offer" contracts from current free agents. All this takes is a little research to see what teams in the NFL are signing back-up offensive lineman for.
Rosters!
- Practice squads need to be updated via the new league rules.
- 16 total available slots now.
- 6 of which can be players with more than 2 years experienced.
- The ability to protect 4 players from being signed to other teams.
- IR and PUP need to be updated and added to the game. PUP (Physically Unable to Perform list) is for players who are injured prior to training camp, mainly players who torn major ligaments later in the previous season should be allowed to be placed on this list. The IR (Injured Reserve list) updated its rules this year and there is an unlimited number of players allowed to return from the IR after a minimum of three weeks.
- Long snapper position! No, I am not talking about just on the the depth chart. They need the actual physical position of the LS. For special teams, the LS is a very important position and I think it needs to be in the game. Now-a-days it's easier to do the roster cuts but making the LS an actual position it'll make the roster cuts a lot tougher.
- Staying on special teams, on the actual depth chart there should be a holder position. Even if there wasn't, y'all need to make the punter the default at that position. I'm tired of seeing the backup quarterbacks there.
- Outside of franchise mode, allow us to trade for draft picks! That way when we update rosters before EA does, we can have updated draft picks to start the new franchise.
- Roster Cuts need to be updated. 90-man roster to start. Down to 85 after Week 1 of preseason. Down to 80 after Week 2. Then final roster cuts to 53 after Week 3. Something I think that should be added is a waiver wire. Players should have to pass through waivers before being added to your practice squad.
- Keep the idea of the waiver wire through the season. A player that is waived can keep their current contract if they are picked up within a period. Players with less than 4 years in the league go through waivers. Veterans with more than 4 years only go through waivers after the midseason point of each season.
Trades!
- I first want to say thank you for updating the trade logic and continuing to tune it throughout the season.
- My first need is that I would like to see 5 slots for each team in the trade screen.
- Also, you see teams trade 3 seasons out of draft picks. Add that 3rd season please!
Coaches!
- Thank you for adding Offensive and Defensive coordinators!
- Try and get permission to add current coordinators into the game.
- In owner's mode, when you fire your head coach in season (which we see in real life), no outside hires allowed, but in the game you can. Make it to where you can only upgrade your defensive or offensive coordinators to the "interim head coach".
- How often do you see head coaches get fired and they are immediately hired to become a head coach of a new team? Not very often, Ron Riviera most recent. Every season I've played, all the head coaches are being rehired. I think majority of them should be hired as assistants and then work their way up.
- With the assistants back in the game, there should be news articles about the hottest new candidates to become head coaches.
Scenarios!
- I know more scenarios will be added throughout the season, but how cool would it be if there was a QB battle scenario? The media asking questions how who's the favorite. And then finally when you make your decision, there is a huge change in overall/moral for each QB.
- Injury Scenarios throughout the year where you can control before the game if a player will be active or inactive coming off an injury. The previous madden had something along this line where you could bring a player back early, but they'd have a higher chance of injuring again.
The Draft!
- Allow a feature to see the actual draft board of who was taken 1st overall and so forth. We want to see who was taken in front of us, instead of digging through the available players. Allow this feature to be in the Fantasy Draft Option too.
- I know this might sound crazy, but what if the Overall for every rookie was hidden (just like the development trait). The only thing you can see are the physical attributes, Speed, Acceleration, Agility, Strength, Jumping, Injury, Stamina, and Toughness. Only at a certain number of snaps played is when ratings are revealed. This changes the way of rebuilding franchises, makes you develop each rookie.
- Now this might be a long stretch to ask for, but is there any way possible of adding compensatory picks? Teams that are forced to losing players because of the salary cap should be rewarded for letting players walk. And with madden, you should be able to base each "round" of compensation by the players overall who left the team.
- You have a button for trading back your pick, but you don't have one for trading up to a current pick.
- With trading up on the topic, please update the reality of compensation of the teams trading up. For example, it might take multiple future first round picks to trade up into the top ten, and you just don't see that from the trade offers.
- Compensatory picks shouldn't be shown or allowed to trade until the week of the draft.
Training Camp!
- Please add something along the lines of a training camp between seasons. Something before preseason that allows you to control practice scenarios. And just like they've added, you can get injured in Training camp. It should be less likely because you aren't going full pace, but it's possible. This should be a 3–4-week thing before the preseason. This is also where you can start the QB battle scenarios.
- When preseason comes around, you should be able to control whether the 1's or the 2's are starting each camp. And/or you should be allowed to give players snap counts before they are taken out of a game.
Stats!
- I like the addition of Next Gen Stats on the new consoles. However, there is a lack of realistic stats during sim.
- I know that there is a feature with Auto Subs, but I personally think there should be options of having a Bell Cow Running Back system, Dual Threat system, or a running back by committee system. This will help the stats at the end of the year. Teams like the Denver Broncos always have that 3rd running back playing lots of snaps throughout the year and being able to adjust a snap count for players will help. Personally, it should be a percentage slider that lists all roster slots for each position, and you can put down what percentage of snaps is given towards each player. The higher the percentage, the great chance of injury or regression later in career.
- At the end of every year in real life, there is always a snap count of players and the percentage of the total snaps played and I think that should be a thing that Next Gen should bring into the game.
- I love the addition of starting a franchise with real-life stats and rosters throughout the season; however, I think this option should be available for offline franchises as well.
After the 2021-2022 season is over.
- Every year, the NFL releases the schedule for the next season at the beginning of May. I know the developers will be working the butts off for the next year of Madden, but could you throw a final May Update for franchise that would update the schedule for Year 2 of franchise mode?
