If you buy Madden 21 on PS4 do you get it for PS5

So if I buy madden 21 on disc do I still get it free for the ps5 or does it have to be a digital copy

EA can correct me if I'm wrong, but no, you can't upgrade cross-consoles.  If you buy it for Xbox One, the upgrade is only available on Xbox Series X.  The PS5 can't read the Xbox One disc, so it would be impossible.

The Dual Entitlement upgrade is only available when you upgrade from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X.

The way I understand it, it can be either.  The way it works with Xbox is that you put the older disc in and then it downloads the digital version.  If that's true, you'll put the disc in your PS5, it'll download a digital copy, but save your disc, you'll need it each time you load the game.  EA can correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I understand it.

Edit: Confirmed with EA's post pinned here.  The only exceptions is if you buy the disc, but get your PS5 without a disc drive, then you will not be able to upgrade.

Do I have to purchase Madden NFL 21 digitally to benefit from Dual Entitlement?
The physical copy of Madden NFL 21 on PlayStation 4 also includes your entitlement to download and play the PlayStation 5 version of the game (and Xbox One with Xbox Series X), so you’ll still be able to upgrade via Dual Entitlement if you purchase a next generation console with a disc drive.

If you intend to buy a discless next generation console, you will need to purchase Madden NFL 21 digitally to take advantage of the Dual Entitlement offer as physical discs cannot currently be used to upgrade to discless consoles.
