The moment the match is loading up (even at the loading screen) that triggers the match officially starting, so any technical issue like a disconnection from the player's screen (intentional or unintentional) can result in a loss. We unfortunately are not able to adjust records by removing losses but as a Madden fan myself I know records are very important.
