MUT21

I am extremely new to MUT and would appreciate any information that can walk me through how it’s supposed to be played, and exactly how things quote “work” what the game cards are all about and so forth.

  • @Hillzboy22 Hi! I'd say in principle MUT is about playing the game, collecting rewards (coins, items, packs, trophies, ...), completing sets and trading items (trading means more or less buying and selling them for coins, but later on more about this).

but let me start with a few links where you can find more information:

if you are starting to build up your MUT team, I'd suggest to start playing Solo Challenges. you can find them in the 'Play' menu. Solo Challenges are structured along promos, all over the year new content has been and will be released, so there will be new stuff again and again. if you want to be notified about new content, releases or other things, the links above should be very helpful. I'd propose to start with the Rivalz promo. this was the first promo that has been released. some of the Solo Challenges are only available for a limited time. it is therefore good to have an overview what is newly released in order to make use of opportunities to get nice rewards.

the main in-game currency are coins. you can buy packs from the store or items from the auction house. you can also sell items you have earned for coins (in order to get an overview about prices, the MUTHead database also contains price information about sold cards). you could also buy points using real cash to buy some packs, but I would start with playing the Solos first.

there are other modes too. Solo Battles are weekly events. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 4 new opponents are released. they are there for a limited time only and some of the times are quite strong. you can also play H2H against other human players, but frankly, if you immediately start trying to play H2H, you will most likely face much stronger team. I would try to avoid that at first. it is just frustrating since match-ups might be quite unfair. if you want to play H2H, you could try the Draft modes (also available as a Solo mode against the AI). in Draft mode you have to pay an entry fee but can build up a lineup by picking 1 out of 3 players for 20 rounds. the more wins in a row you manage to get, the better are the rewards you will get...

regarding building up your lineup: for every game you play (or win) you will get rewards. the rewarded items can be used for your lineup, they can be sold or traded, they can be used to complete sets to get better players, or quicksold for training. training is another currency allowing to buy items in the store or upgrade your players. I'd say the most interesting items are Power Up items. they start with a low OVR strength but you can upgrade them (depending on the best item which is available for the player at the moment). if a new item of the respective player is released, you can upgrade him even more. I'd suggest to have a look at the MUTHead database and search for Power Up players. there you will find some information about upgrades, how much they cost, etc.

one more thing: as soon as your lineup improves, chemistries will become interesting for you. they are team-specific, i.e. you have to upgrade enough players with the same chemistry to allow every of those players to get a bonus on their attributes. I will not go into detail here because chemistries will become important later on for you. but just to let you know about it.

I hope, this first thoughts are helpful for you. have fun playing the game and if you have further questions: you've already found the best place for it! 🙂

I appreciate the information.  Yes I’ve been playing the solos,  well until the challenges started glitching,  at this point I’m sitting idle.

the upgrading of the players is a bit confusing to me,  I have used some training points to upgrade some players and things of that nature,  but I’m still not sure entirely how to go about it.  I know the sets are important I’m just not sure about how to start doing them,  do I basically have to get players that that set requires in order to complete them with the end result being a player of better quality ?  For example if I needed an 87 Steve smith sr I would need to either have one on my team, purchase them through auction,  or luck of the draw buy a pack and he’s in there ?

these are things that confuse me only because as I build my team and I have these players that I like,  if they are needed for a set and I add them to it,  they can no longer play on my roster am I correct in that statement as well ?

I really appreciate you taking the time to give me all the info you already have.  You definitely answered some of the questions that I’ve had.

@Hillzboy22 if you want to focus on specific players, from my perspective the best (and cheapest) way is to buy them from the auction house. if they have been released a few weeks ago already, the auction house is most often much cheaper then trying to complete the sets.

the upgrading system becomes more relevant the stronger the players are. if your prefered players have a power up item (these purple items) I would definitely invest some training as soon as you have enough training available. I would suggest to wait a bit before starting to invest in upgrades. they become much cheaper as soon as you are able to get items with higher OVR (because the quicksell for much more training points).

if you want to get training points, it is most often cheaper to quicksell a few better items for training (and sell the lower items in the auction house) then quickselling the lower items (and selling the better items in the auction house). the training quicksell values is the same for all items with the same OVR (except NAT items. non-auctionable and tradable items have the half quicksell value only compared to non-NAT items with the same OVR) and increase by 50% for every +1 OVR (except Gold and Silver players). it is definitely worth thinking about what items to sell for coins and what for training. one hint: since you can use NAT items for sets but only get half the value when you quicksell them, I always keep them in my item binder untill there is a set available I want to use them for...

but to answer your questions directly:

    • yes, items in sets are not in your item binder anymore and are therefore not available for your lineup.
    • regarding Steve Smith (I copy the search link from the MUTHead database for Steve Smith here: Madden 21 Player Ratings Database | Muthead), there are currently 10 different items available. I'd say the most important one is his Power Up (PU) item (on the bottom of the list with 78 OVR). if you click on this item in the database and go to the "Upgrades" tab, you see on the right of the screen his power up levels. upgrading most of the tiers requires training, but you also need his 92 Legends item and his 97 Playoffs item to do the full upgrade. to use such an item for the upgrade you have to have it in your item binder. it does not matter whether he is in your lineup at the moment, but as soon as you select the upgrade and chose the item, it is not available anymore for the lineup (which does not matter since you now have his Power Up item with +1 OVR compared to the single item). if you downgrade the Power Up item again, you would get the item back (and can find it in your item binder).
there are some more Steve Smith items available. the Legends promo releases two new Legends players every Saturday. for these Legends, there are 5 items available to be used in a set to get the best Legend item (of the respective player). in addition, there exist Limited Time Editions (LTDs) for these Legends. the are as strong as a fully power up PU item, so if you are lucky to get one (they are available in packs for a short period of time only) you would save all the training you would need to upgrade the PU for getting the same OVR. the Redux item is in principle the same as the LTD Legends item. after some time, these Series Redux items are released to bring in the LTD items on a broader base. well, it is a bit complicated to start with the Legends, Legend LTDs and Series Redux, so do not worry, if it is confusing at the moment....

I hope I answered some more of your questions.

In regards to the sets,  did you mean it’s cheaper to buy the player you receive when you complete the sets or cheaper to buy players needed to complete sets ? How important is it to complete sets instead of just completing challenges ?
