Offensive line blocking is terrible

I understand getting hit by a good pass rush or a good blitz but getting hit because AI blocking issues that's something else. Why I'm I getting hit by a 4 man pass rush when I have 6 guys blocking? One guy called a blitz out of quarters it had a 3 man pass rush and one guy blitzing from the slot . I shifted my line toward the blitzing slot DB and they missed the block completely. Come on EA  this bs needs to be patched ASAP the line blocking logic is terrible.

  • Agree - it's one if a defender wins the battle against an O Linemen. Happens in real life all the time. Or a missed assignment on a stunt or something.

But I am seeing NFL starters look completely lost and not even engage the rusher. I don't know if the code isn't allowing the OL to change their assignment fast enough (or at all) based on which defenders rush in - but it's the wrong way for EA to generate a pass rush.

Do it like in real life - a starting LT or LG shouldn't stare into space while rushers just go around him. These are NFL caliber offensive linemen that are playing like they are back in junior high. I know it's a video game - but Madden football has been in business long enough to know how offensive lines play.

If a highly rated DE or DT rushes against a mediocre LT - I expect the DE/DT to win most of the time.  But I expect them to win by overpowering the LT, or speeding around him with a swim move, or a combination. But I don't expect the LT to come out of his stance with his hands up and just stare into space while the defender just goes around him.

  • This Madden has some of the worst offensive line blocking I've ever seen. I blocked 8 people on a play the cpu rushed 3 defenders. They still sacked me in about 4 seconds. I gave up 5 sacks in the first quarter to Joey Bosa even though He was double teamed. I just turned the game off I've had enough.

  • Here are my suggestions, let me know what y'all think...

Issue #1. Too many missed assignments.

Solution: Aside from "tuning to improve blocking logic" (easy fix there) they also need to being back the "Center Awareness" Force multiplier from back in 2018. The, what would happen was the awareness of the center impacted the entire unit (I.E. Center AWR rating would replace the that same rating for the lowest rated other lineman)

Side note: This should also apply to MLB for linebacker and Safeties for DBs as well, buy I digress....

Issue #2. Slide/Rollout plays darn near unusable.

The blocking logic here is COMPLETELY wrong. Lineman are blocking "straight up" resulting in QB facing almost immediate pressure from the edge rusher.

Solution: Lineman should actually MOVE THE POCKET.

Rollout pass pro = Stretch Zone Pass pro TOWARDS the QB roll.

Slide Pass pro = Stretch Zone Pass pro AWAY from the QB roll.

This blocking scheme is ran at all levels of the game from high school to the pros. Not sure why the devs haven't properly implemented this in the game. Again...an easy fix.

Issue #3. Blitzing too OP. Especially from the edge

The devs have done a good job improving the blitz logic. Rushers properly "tandem rush" like their real life counterparts. The problem is, the offense was never given a solid counter to these improvements.

Solution: Check and Release needs to be re-tooled. Right now, RBs and TEs on Check and Release assignments are currently assigned to a specific MAN. This instead needs to be changed to scan a specific AREA. (Right/Left/Middle respectively) Scan those areas and if and ONLY if no free rushers comes from that side...go into their routes.

Also, give the user the ability to ASSIGN which side to scan for Check and Release assignments in the middle for RBs.

Issue #4. Lineman not properly engaging defenders. Not ideal. Please fix.

For these reasons, it's not even practical to run base/heavy sets at all.

  • Another suggestion...

Far too many times (especially on play action plays) we see o lineman with no one to block sitting there doing their "pitter patter" against air while their teammate gets beat by a rusher and comes free.

In the NFL, lineman will "peel back" to help their fellow o lineman out when not engaged with anyone. The best lineman are as you'd expect the best at this.

I can't believe they released this game with offensive lineman blocking this bad. And the running backs are even worse if that is believable. U can rush 3 defenders and block 8 people and watch how fast the pass rush gets in especially playing on all madden. The game is almost unplayable because the blocking is so bad.
