Re: CPU offense unstoppable!

I have the same issue.  I play on the Madden level in Franchise mode.  The CPU is unstoppable on offense.  I am very disappointed in Madden 21.   They killed the pass rush.  They killed the defense.  Ugh...

If you are playing on All-Madden I can only advise to turn down the difficulty. Without any video footage it's tough for us to really determine what's happening in game, whether it's a skill gap or viable counters to pass plays being selected on defense.

@EA_BlueberryI think one of the larger issues, within Madden, is the exploit plays and routes. Sure, we can adjust the defense and change the coverage or put extra players into coverage, but in the end, I think everyone would like to be able to call man coverage, shade the defenders to the inside and actually be able to stop a slant route. Sadly, that just doesn't happen. It doesn't matter what is done. The cornerback could be 99 OVR, against a 70 OVR receiver and they will get beat on a slant every single time. Same goes for drag and crossing patterns. It seems to be a going theme, with most Madden titles. Broken routes, that are just uncoverable, unless you send a lineman back into middle zone. Then that takes away from pass rush. There's just no winning. It would be nice to see players cover the way they are supposed to. If I shade inside, that mean the corner should be looking for a slant, which means they can be beat with an out or post corner. It used to work and be kinda cool, but on this particular Madden, it just doesn't work. It's a broken mechanic.

Zone coverage is no better, though. Defenders don't cover some of the zones properly. Take Cover 2, for example. The cornerbacks are supposed to be defending the flat zone, but they really don't. If you send a crossing route, to that side of the field, it will pull that corner into deep coverage and off of the flat route. (another exploit) It's just broken and it happens with multiple zone styles. As I said, above, it seems like pass coverage is too broken, in this year's Madden.

@WrathOfHades85 Would you like to have it where if you drop the CBs to the line of scrimmage, depending on how elite the CB and WR are, there could be a random chance of the WR getting stuffed by the defender within the 5 yards? I'd love to see press coverage where WRs with high fatigue suddenly aren't able to make a cut inside on a slant like they are at the beginning of the game. This can make it so it's

    A) Not always reliable/consistent
    B) More authentic to real life
    C) Helps prevent people from going slant every time

I can see receivers like Michael Thomas and Davante Adams being unstoppable though. They should rarely ever get held up. However if they're going up against one of the best DBs in the game I can see a slight chance of it happening. Only downside I can think of is players questioning whether games are "scripted" because outcomes like this are thrown in.

@EA_BlueberryI could see that working. I've just noticed that even if you play bump coverage and shade the DBs to the inside, they still have zero interest in actually coving the inside routes. That's in man coverage. I can understand slant routes not being covered so well, in some zone coverages, but most of the time, it just looks like the defenders are lost.

I actually got to the point of super-simming the defense, just because it's too broken to play.

But, in all, those are my biggest gripes in pass coverage.

    1. Zone defenders not staying in the zone the plays says they are covering (ie. CBs not staying in the flat)
    2. crossing routes, drag routes and slants being wide open, no matter what play call is used.

I can see what you are saying helping quite a bit. I'd also like to see some more realistic pass breakups. Let's say someone runs a slant. In this year's Madden, the defenders just come in and tackle the receiver and sometimes the receiver will drop it. But, I feel like, in real life, we see alot of DBs with that outside hand on the back and the inside hand batting the ball away. That's the kind of stuff that needs to be in this game. Otherwise the man coverage/zone coverage attributes are kinda moot. Sometimes I do see a DB try to dive in front and block a pass, but I just never see the proper technique being displayed. These are supposed to be pros, so I think they should use proper techniques.

I don't know the difficulties of getting that type of stuff into the game, but I just feel like it would help.

I would ask though, that perhaps they could increase the reaction time of the DBs if you guess right, while shading inside or outside. That would also help, as a "right now" fix. If someone runs a slant and I shaded my guys to expect the slant, they should have a jump on it. Or, maybe install a "guess route" feature. That could make for huge game-changing plays. Just a few ideas.

Yeah I have the same issue! I thought it was just me... I even took the CPU's QB accuracy down to 10 and they Literally still complete every pass. Whoever is covering the RB or TE in man coverage always blitz the QB without being told to and leaving their man wide open!!! I had to buy a new Madden because I snapped my disc out of anger. But I found a way to beat it... 1st NEVER PLAY ZONE!!! 2nd whoever is gaurding the RB you MUST play on him even in the slot(no RB gaurd TE) u cant play as a pass rusher. What u do is switch and dive once they get about a yard close... They still copmlete most 3rd downs unless u hit or sack them and they still have outrageous numbers(even Jalen Hurts threw for 400 and 3 TDs) but at least its more competitive and u CATCH PICKS from time to time!!! And 3rd!! Take the CPU QB sliders down to about 20 to 25 while putting YOUR Pass Coverage on 100 and your Play Recognition on 80... Waaay more REALISTIC and FUN and you still have to be GOOD to win!!!

@EA_Blueberry I am curious if you have even played Madden 21, cause if you had or have you would not require and keep asking for video footage cause you would be seeing it first hand. Everything people are posting and asking about is actually happening, so please just play the game and you will know.

@rweiss13 Of course I play the game, I was also a top player on the leaderboards a while back. 🙂

We have a little more than 2 handful of people out of thousands that play this game that claim the CPU is unstoppable. It's hard to gauge what their skill level is off of text, so getting some video footage to see what defense formations they're setting up can be helpful to understand where they're coming from. Does the CPU complete more passes on a higher difficulty? Of course! Will they score more touchdowns because of continued drives? Of course? Are they unstoppable. The answer is no, of course. This is purely an opinion based post and either the difficulty needs to be turned down, or we need some more specific examples of where they feel the CPU is unstoppable to determine if adjustments need to be made to certain formations when they line up.

    @JayJitsu13

I think the videos can help us determine what the actual issue is at hand because there are so many moving parts that happen on the field it's just not a "simple fix." I've also seen plenty of videos over the years where players claim a defense is flawed yet they are using the linebacker out of coverage and there is an obvious skill gap where they need more practice rather than the development team fine tuning the game for meta complaints when players are playing at lower skill levels. This is where a video can be encouraging to give advice on what to do instead and crowdsource recommendations from the community on how to counter certain plays.

I just noticed this thread is from 2014 so I am going to close this down due to necroposting. If you play Madden 22 I recommend posting in the boards for that title here.
