I have the exact same problem. My account is also a minor and every other madden game it worked fine but as soon as I load up madden 21 it doesnt let me play anything online. Hopefully it is a bug
APEX Legends and all other Maddens load fine. Battlefront 2 used to, but now does not after we updated it (haven't used it in a while). EA has sold my son an unusable and very expensive product. EA needs to fix the issue. The answer is not to start creating new accounts to circumvent an EA issue. My son has PS+, so that is not an option.
I just called EA. Now they are saying that because it is an underage account that he cannot play Madden 21 online per COPPA (https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-coppa-frequently-asked-questions-0). He has had no issue with prior EA games, so this is bunk since COPPA has been in place for over 20 years. EA should be using the PS4 security model, not making their own rules.
They sold him the MVP game for $90, but he cannot even save his LOCAL game progress or get his extra MVP packs. They said they could not refund it and go to PS4. All of Son'ys agents are too busy to chat, and their automated chatbot says he cannot get a refund. Used PSN points for it, so I cannot go to my credit card.
Anyone else having similar issues?
EA dropped the COPPA line on me too. I kept pushing and this is as far as I got:
"I have discussed your concern with my team. This is something that we follow the laws for. It's possible the rating information for Madden 21 has different restrictions than Madden 20 or previous years. It's not something we can modify on our end here."
so super frustrating.
If you are in the US, you can enter a complaint at the following address under the Internet sales ("I never received merchandise"). Note that the FTC is also the organization which oversees COPPA, so if EA is enforcing it wrong or is scamming buyers that they can cover both.
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
EA sold the MVP version to my son which comes with extra packs which they could not deliver to him. Hence, he did not receive the merchandise.
I'm giving it another day or two myself to see if they correct the issue - I honestly believe that they do not have the security set up as in the past, and COPPA has been around a long time. In Madden 20, the settings screen for my son show all the guardian contact info, etc. COPPA is for protecting sharing of child information, getting parental, consent, etc. so using it as a content filter is incorrect. The online filtering is primarily for conversations which may be inappropriate with other players, but the platforms (PSN, XBOX, etc.) already restrict that aspect. EA needs to have their games to conform to using the security controls of the different platforms.
Farewell - I'm not buying any more EA games or the PS5 when it comes out. I could not get a refund from Sony on a product which EA could not deliver.
For those in the US or stationed abroad who did not receive the products promised, could not get a refund, and wish to file a consumer complaint against EA or Sony for PS4, you can do so at the federal level (FTC) or with the :

https://www.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.cand.364326/gov.uscourts.cand.364326.1.0.pdfI had the same situation with my son's account.
After 4 days of banging my head against the wall thinking it was a problem on my side, I did a chat with help.ea.com to get technical support. They told me about this issue and to "wait a few days". When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they ended the chat which was totally appalling. It feels like I have been ripped off and they don't care.
I dont know why an email communication did not go out about the issue from EA. But, I wasted at least 3-5 hours of my time on it when the problem is clearly on their side.
As a game developer, I can tell you, yes, COPPA has been around for many years and the game worked fine for us previously. So, this is clearly a new issue and the lack of communication is terribly disappointing.

We raised your experiences up to the teams at EA to investigate into this. We'll report back here when we have more information on why it worked for 20 but no longer for 21.
After all these complaints EA should have an answer by now! My son is having the same problem, which means i just wasted $60. Madden 20 automatically allowed the child to use the parents EA account to connect to the server and play online games. It's not EA and Origin's responsibility to restrict children to online play, but instead that should be left up to the parents. You guys need to make a disclaimer or something, letting parents now about the restrictions. Madden 21 is rated E for Everyone, but Everyone cannot enjoy all of the online features!
HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE!
