SUPERSTAR KO MODE: play any role....not random?

a friend and I have been playing this mode for a while....we do PLAY ANY ROLE to mix things up and let the game give us what it give us....the problem is... IT NEVER CHANGES. it always makes me defe...

My friend and I have been having the same problem for the past two hours and can not figure out for the love of it how to pick the role or change it once the game has started.
