Hot spot catches not counting or...

Hot spot catches arent counting even though receivers are taking 2 or 3 steps in it. The receivers take long strides to step out or if we are lucky (mentioned this before) the receivers dont even run the right route. By the way, the receivers are sped up, if they run this fast as a disadvantage in events, why cant they run like this in gameplay?
