I had this same problem with Madden 2016-2017 the other day and thought I would post my solution.
Mostly this issue is related to your game not being able to connect to your wi-fi. I am not sure why its singled out to Madden but I would assume its something to do with the way EA runs their game services. Similar to how some games always ask for an open NAT type. Its not really EAs fault as such, but they are probably not giving advice on how to fix it due to legal reasons and its not really your network providers fault.
The fastest way to fix this is by changing some information in your router so your portable device can properly communicate with the router.
You should try to enable DHCP settings. This basically gives your portable device a static IP address to your router.
Every router model is going to be done slightly different depending on the make. But search your model and "DHCP settings" into google and it should guide you to how to give your portable device (your phone, ipad, kindle, laptop or PC) a static IP.
Now I cannot say this is going to work for you. But you should try it and you can always disable DHCP to return it to the original settings.
While you are in your router I would also recommend seeing which channel you are on. Changing channels can vastly increase the quality of your data transfer. I would recommend taking a look at what a piece of software Inssider Home (free) can do for you, and download it. I was amazed and its now my new hobby to see which routers in the area are destroying the quality of the neighbours router signals.
