Some people only choose 1 play, so that's why that's all you saw on 1st.
Lots of players use quarters on 1st down to prevent 1 play TDs. In the old arena, quickest to score was the tie-breaker.

Thanks for your response. I have man 3 up on my first down as well. But I still don’t have the answer to the questions. How does the AI call the plays? Is it totally random or does is match the best defensive formation for the offensive formation called?
for example if the player picks a 4 wide play like Hail Mary, will the ai call a dime or quarter formation, if it is 1 of the 5 plays I have selected on defense for that down?
if I can get understand what’s happening, I feel like I could figure out a hellacious defensive strat.
