Re: Why can't we play old versions of Madden mobile

@AR12goat5

Essentially, yes; it's a server thing. Historically, MM15-MM20 was played on the same app. At the conclusion of each season, the servers would go offline for a period of time and server maintenance would commence. After a few days, an update for the app will be made available via the app store and the new game will launch with the updated servers. At this time, the prior season will no longer be available to play.

Now, with the transition from MM20 to the current Madden NFL 21 Mobile, things were a bit different than usual. MM20 is actually still playable (you can still download the game if you have it in your app store's download history), which is something that was not a thing with any of the prior Madden Mobiles. This is because Madden NFL 21 Mobile is a completely separate app from the prior MM20 season, so the MM20 servers were able to remain online and co-exist with the new season.

  • Thanks for this answer! It confirmed everything I thought and gave me another insight of what happened at the shut down. Unfortunately, the current version isn't compatible with my phone (Moto G6) and everything beyond MM18 hasn't run smoothly. I wish I could play still hence why I was wondering if there was wondering if there was any chance I could still play.

    Why have the madden mobile 20 servers been closed? It was just working a few weeks ago?

    @ayglix

    This is a broad explanation of why online services are shut down for our games:

    The decisions to withdraw particular features or modes of certain EA games, or to retire online services relating to older EA games are never easy. The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into our games, their features and modes almost as much as the players, and it is hard to see one retired. As games are replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the games that have been live for some time dwindles to a level – typically fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles – where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping the online services for these games up and running.

    We are also committed to constantly updating and improving the features and modes to keep in our games to ensure they remain exciting to play for as long as possible. That commitment to great gameplay sometimes means that we need to remove outdated features and modes.

    In some instances, where the online services for a particular game may no longer be available or supported, the game may still be played and enjoyed offline. Depending on the type of game, and the particular services which may no longer be supported, players’ inventory of virtual currency and/or in-game items may continue to be used, whether or not the applicable in-game store is open or disabled, and whether or not the game is still available for sale to new users.

    We hope that you continue to enjoy playing our games and we appreciate that you’re choosing to play with EA. If you have further questions about your account or the shut-down of any EA services, please visit http://help.ea.com.

    Thank you,

    But it won’t let me play offline! Whenever I try openenig the app, it says please connect to the internet, even though I’m connected.

    Please just make it that we can still play offline with our teams that we worked so hard on, and spent so much money on!

    Thank you.

    Madden Mobile 20 has been sunset. There will be no more updates for the game. The team is focused on the current and future Madden titles.

    @EA_Blueberry You think the code could be released to make an emulator? Or the games get released separately again and we pay to buy the app?

    @u651jt3gnq91

    There are no plans to release the code for an emulator. Madden Mobile has always transitioned from one season to the next.

    @EA_Blueberry Dang, I’d pay good money to be able to redownload each game. Madden mobile 18 with the option to play through different events like on console would be awesome.

    @u651jt3gnq91

    I'd be great to see more type of game modes you see on console make it to mobile and vise-versa. There are events on mobile that I think the console/PC crowd would also enjoy for the Solo Challenges part of the game.

    Do you have any favorite ones you want to see added to mobile?

    @EA_Blueberry Nothing in particular but if there was a madden mobile 18 out there with all the content available to play through that would be awesome. Like once you get done with Halloween you can move on to ultimate freeze. Along with the packs being available in the store to buy as well.
