Unable to Upgrade MF Vamp Bailey

I had upgraded the Most Feared Vamp Bailey 3 times in the Cathedral. IIRC the card starts at an 84, meaning that I have him upgraded to an 87. I got him when I logged into the game for the first time, so I hadn’t done the rank up tutorial yet. It had me rank up my defense, so the card is now one rank higher at an 88. But now, when I go to access the trade using the icon in Cathedral, it takes me to the 87->88 trade, which I cannot complete because I have the 88 version and not the 87. I have not found a way to locate the 88->89 trade in-game. Anything I should try, or am I just stuck? Can I clear rank from a player earlier than the rank reset?
