why can't i throw the ball away

Why can't I throw the ball away? My trash can button is grayed out and no matter how much I tap it the QB holds onto the ball!

Bug issue
In flashbacks the desert region 5 boss level won't unlock even though the previous levels were unlocked and beaten. I've logged out and back in and even deleted and reinstalled the game.
