Dang, Sam and Max is taking me back. :-) I recently grabbed the games and the sequel over at GOG.com (that place is addictive) including The Dig, Advent Rising, and the Wing Commander series which I loved as a kid. I'm tempted to dig out my old Nintendo and play some old school stuff on it but it's MIA in boxes along with my PS1. Arggh.
I haven't really been into much recent games until ME:A came along and it actually got me back into gaming. It also made me realize how few SF RPGs there are out there. Kind of sad. I would love to see more sci-fi games where you can explore space and land on planets to continue adventures including on the ship. Seems like a gap only EA/BW is filling unless the rumored Starfield is true.
Anyway, my third playthrough is currently on hold until it gets less buggy for me. I did a repair recently which kind of helped on my second PT but still, there were some issues. It's kind fo disappointing about the lack of communication and attention to SP but not too surprising these days I guess. I'll keep an ear on the ground but won't get my hopes up.
If you are looking for another sci fi give planet explorers a crack - i haven't been back in a while but its had some massive patches and even before then the sp story wasn't half bad 🙂. The VA work isnt mass effect amazing but it wasn't terrible.
The Dig! Thanks thats the name I was trying to remember and couldnt lol
We totally need more sci fi 🙂. Although I don't mind fantasy, sci fi is far more my favorite. I even played the star trek voyager game and had some fun in the mp for it lol. Star Trek Online showed promise but I dunno. I didn’t end up enjoying it as much as I hoped. Same with the repopulation.
Also if you havent, try swtor - the story is all soloable and some of them are fantastic (especially the imperial agent story). Totally a must play at least once for all star wars / kotor fans just for the story. Its ftp too! You can easy do the stories without a sub.
Planet Explorers? I'll definitely check that out. Thanks!
I guess I should have added also where you can choose your own character also since that is also a rarity. I was kind of bummed I couldn't play as a chick in Advent Rising but still...that didn't stop me from enjoying the Uncharted series. :-)
I agreel RPGs seem to be synonymous with fantasy since Gauntlet and BG sort of kicked off things many moons ago, but I would love to see more sci-fi since it's always been my fave genre. It's kinda funny, I think we feel opposites with TOR and STO. I really enjoyed STO and recently got back to it since we started a TNG marathon. It had been so long my husband and I restarted it from the beginning and I'm looking forward to playing the episodes again.
Whereas TOR I couldn't really get into it for some reason and I love SW like I love ST. Not sure why, but for some reason it didn't keep my interest. Maybe one day I'll try it again though. I loved KOTOR but never finished it. Need to zip back and finish that one day also but I think I got stuck at one part lol.
