Can't connect to ME3 servers (locked out of my DLC, multiplayer, etc.)
I finally bought Mass Effect 3 yesterday (Digital Deluxe version). Unfortunately, when I launch the game and attempt to sign in, I get the following error:
The Mass Effect 3 server is unavailable at this time. Please try again later.
Note that I can access the rest of the internet normally, including signing in to the Origin service, downloading files from it, etc. It's only the game itself that can't connect.
I've done quite a bit of troubleshooting on my own:
- Checked integrity of all DLC via Origin interface (no repairs required)
- Forwarded all recommended ports on my router
- Turned off Windows firewall
- Disabled all possible options on router firewall
- Checked hosts file for any EA-related entries (none)
- Ran ME3/Origin individual executables as administrator
- Checked for updates (small update after running as administrator, but no effect on connectivity)
- Repaired installation (no missing or corrupt files; game up to date)
- Rebooted PC
- Reset router
No effect. At most, I'm able to connect to the EA servers for somewhere between a couple of seconds and a couple of minutes, after which I get the error:
You have lost your connection to the Mass Effect 3 server.
This is preventing me from being able to even load my saved game, since I had a connection for five seconds when I saved it, thanks to EA's obstructive, terrible, poorly thought-out, legitimate-customer-punishing, always-on DRM. Please, any further advice is appreciated! Relevant system details below; please request anything else needed.
- OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
- ISP: AT&T (U-verse)
- Router: Motorola NVG510
- Network card: ASUS 802.11n Wireless LAN Card (Ralink corp. RT2790)
FYI, this problem was eventually resolved by replacing my wireless network card. For people on PCs, if you have a spare USB one kicking around (or if you don't mind spending $20 on troubleshooting), you could try that to see if it resolves your issues.
