At this point, the menu seems live but no clicks work. After a few seconds of "WTF why did my game freeze?" the "checking downloadable content" pops up for a second time. Then, when it goes away again everything works. The freeze is frustrating and if nothing else shows a lack of polish from EA's part?
It's normal. I use the time to finish checking BSN before beginning a game.
Agreed, it's normal and it's annoying. I'm using the Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector's Edition and from what I can understand from the scripting the first "Checking Downloadable Content" is for the paid DLC and the second is for the free DLC (which is why the check is much shorter).
Whichever it is, it really shouldn't be like that. For those that are not technical enough to understand what is going on 'under the hood' as it were, it can be somewhat annoying and frustrating.
