Tann does specifically say they hopes the Quarrians would be in the first wave. That suggests to me others were planned.

It could go a lot of ways.
It is also possible that the "new" peace lasted a couple hundred years and then they all got serious about wiping each other out.
Wrex won't live forever, and without the genophage Krogans will multiply exponentially (X1000/year). This time they're even more advanced too.

Yeah and apparently they got delayed because they were bringing other races as well like the Drell.
I suppose this was BW's way of neither including nor excluding any options for the future.

As long as the last arks get out before the assault on Earth begins you don't have to worry about a canonized ending as long as we lose all comms to the Milky Way due to accidents, relay blasts and sabotage. You could potentially have them observe the massive relay charge bursts from dark space and flip out about it.😮😢
