I thought i had replied to this thread but it seems i imagined it.
Also for reference, I will be using Australian prices because that is where i am, so i think the game is like.... $60 american bucks? or was it 60 euros? i really dont know, but it is $100 in Australia so like 50% more is all you need to keep in mind.
My point of view is simple, I don't need a discount the price is perfectly fine.
After considering it though i can see how a discount for existing owners miiiiight be worth it, simply because new people buying the game for X might generate less revenue for bioware that if new players buy for X AND some existing users also buy a copy for Y price.
I also wondered if the platform had something to do with it since most of the people posting in this thread seem to be talking about pc launchers and lets be real, pc owners complain the most.
I couldnt be bothered checking the ps5 store but it seems like huge value to me considering ME1 wasnt ever on playstation so for them this legendary edition brings a whole new game, hence the $90 is worth.
On xbox where we already had ME1 I still see it being worth tbh. My reasoning here is a pure price comparison.
I googled the prices of ME1,2,3 on the xbox store and ME1 is $30, Bring down the sky is $1 and prinnacle station is $5. Since pinnacle isnt in the legendary edition the total is only $31 for ME1.
ME2 is $30, i couldnt be bothered with a calculator but quick addition in my head and rounding the cents up/down and i get somewhere in the vicinity of $35 for dlc (for some reason zaeed dlc was missing) that add missions or characters and then god knows how much for all the skin and weapon dlc packs meaning at least $65 for ME2.ME3 is $30, for the me3 main dlc i got $50 with all the little dlc not being counted so a minimum of $80 if youre going for all content.
Adding these up, if i wanted all dlc story content/characters and base games the xbox store charges me $176 plus all the small weapon and skin dlc's i didnt account for.
The remaster price of $100 delivers the same content for 70% cheaper already AND it (should theoretically) look and run better than ever with a single launcher for the games and far FAR less clicking through menus to try buy and install all those annoying dlc one by one. There is also a discount if you have ea play which applies to game pass ultimate as well so it is $90 but you pay for that service so it depends if you already had the service before getting the legendary edition if it is actually a discount.
Also side note i am aware of preowned copies with physical retailers, i looked at only one in my area (cause im lazy) and ME1 is $15, me2 is $14 and me3 is $18 but there is no 'game of the year edition' so you would still need to buy dlc online i believe??? not much saved there. I would hope the original versions get a price cut though when legendary edition comes out.
On pc im not sure where you guys go for the cheapest copy but i typically look at steam and all 3 games seem to be 30 bucks USD? also i heard the dlc is all free on pc for some random reason, some legality thing?? im just going to assume the dlc is free and using the steam prices it would still be cheaper for a new player to get legendary on pc. I also heard pc had a lot more technical problems due to it being a port, things like manually having to put dlc files into the game folder and random crashes or whatever so based on the technical issues alone im surprised PC owners arent thrilled to be getting a single launcher that takes all the work and bugs out of just running the game.
Am i missing something here? It seems for all 3 platforms the new version is cheaper than the old one. so if we already get a discount on the previous trilogy price AND the new, cheaper version has smoother, prettier gameplay with less technical issues.... why are people asking for a bigger 2nd discount?
Like, if you dont want to pay to replay it then dont, do replay the original games. If you do want to replay it you get a bunch of quality of life improvements to improve the overall experience.@GrimReaperTaken Just FYI Mass Effect 1 was released on Playstation when they released Mass Effect Trilogy
The main issue is that many people have purchased the game when they first came out at the original retail price which could be between $50-$70 per game when first released depending on location and many people also bought all the DLC when they were each released which again varies from $3 - $15 per DLC, so people can spend anywhere from $100 to $300-$400 depending on when they bought it (and that isn't even including microtransactions if you purchased loot crates in ME3 MP) and now they have to spend another $70 - $100 for content they technically already own.
I understand that the work put into trilogy would need some compensation however people would just like a reward for supporting the franchise (some since day one) especially when other stores are offering a discount for the same product while here there is none. Along the lines of "For showing your support for Mass Effect here is a discount as thank you".
PC players I don't think are complaining as much as it is possible to get the same results of - or close to - Legendary Edition by using fan made mods as there are many that offer features that are included in the Legendary Edition so the incentive to pay again is not there.
I agree. I bought the first game on the recommendation of a friend and pre ordered the rest through Andromeda. But the more people who wait or hold off at release, the quicker the game will go down in price or go on sale on Steam for pc players. It still stinks, but EA has been after a money grab since the last several marginal games. They want us to complain but spend the money because we love the game.
I say, Wait.
How often do games go up in price? The more that wait, the better the savings in mid to late summer.
Just like Destiny, it makes you wonder if instead of buying the games straight up, you're better to wait, as the people who weren't interested or supportive at the start get way better bundle deals. It often feels like a kick in the teeth by the developers. That or a cash grab before the games end of life. There should be some reward for supporting a game from the start, paying full price for it and DLC. I think developers use those of us who love and support the game from the start to cover its original building cost and the later sales are just cream on top. Buying an awesome bundle cheap for a game you are not sure of may create new supporters, but the heavily discounted prices dishearten those who already love the game and paid top dollar to love it.
Meh, I've made my decision already... Not worth buying it. Will probably play it when EA released EA pass for my XBox PC game pass... And if not, there are ways (not referring to piracy, which, unfortunately will be another option for some).
I totally agree to all of us whom already owned all the series, plus DLC, plus whatever editions (e.g. Deluxe, etc.)... Sounds like they don't care about their loyal fans
Rather than complain about not getting a discount... take what you and I already have and make the most of it. Go to nexus mods and download yourself the 4k texture mods that people NOT EA have already produced, and download them for free... don't give EA another dime for the same content you already know and love and own... it's that easy
- @Sternitzky Promote? It was an exclusive. I had 1 & 2 and all DLC on Steam and was pissed at the time that I couldn't complete the set on one Store platform. Now because of that (timed) exclusivity I'm going to miss out on a discount that EA can't be bothered to apply to it's own store.
Yeah dontt see that happing but it would be nice.
It's just messed up.
I mean... I bought my MEs and all those shiny add ons/DLCs directly on Origin (way back, mind you), so the publisher wouldn't have to shell out a fee to a reseller and now *they* give discounts for the Legendary Edition to people who bought ME3 there... but Origin don't?
Even when they ported it to Steam - you couldn't merge it & if you wanted to play ME3 on Steam, you still had to go through the Origin launcher.
I wanted to have all my MEs on one platform, but the way this is now, I'd rather skip over to Steam -even without being eligible for the discount- and at least get the funky achievements.
If nothing else it's bad marketing.
