Downloading Omega, Origin Stuck At 22kb/s

Hiya!

My only experience with Origin is in regards to ME3. I bought ME3, and from Ashes, they downloaded fine. I bought Leviathan later, as well as installed the EC, both downloaded fine. (and in these examples, fine = well over 100kb/s) Unfortunately, since purchasing Omega last night, the downloader on Origin is stuck at 22kb/s. I have opened and closed the program to no avail. Actually, when I reopened the program it shot up to over 300kbs for a few seconds and slowly dwindled it's way (in about 10 seconds) to the 22kb/s I've been seeing for the last 12 hours. And this is just barely under 2gig!

I am on on satellite internet out in the country, but I get fairly high download rates on Steam, which I use often (1.5m/s +) do not think it is my internet, I've done the speed test I saw recommended on other forums - both my upload and downloads speeds are registering in mb, not kb. I've done a test run downloading with Steam, and currently -at this moment- get the high download rates on Steam. I understand Origin being a little slower, but 22kb/s? For a small dlc? This is unreasonable.

And the way I watched the speed crawl down to 22 from over 300 feels like there's some choke hold on the speed - but it isn't registering with any other "downloading" program I own on my computer. Leads me to believe it is on the Origin side of things, not sure really - but if anyone has any information, tips, or tactics on how to improve my download speeds so that I do not have to wait another....13+ hours for this download, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Instead of buying ME1 again on Origin, you could have just redeemed your ME1 serial code through the special EA activation-website for games before 2008 here (taken from this EA knowledge-base article). If it still doesn't show up, talk to a game advisor they can add it to your account manually when you give them the serial. Worked for me, I now have all three games on Origin without needing to buy one again. Download speed was no issue. Maybe talk to your provider, some providers have poor peerings especially when it comes to oversee-connections. Never had a speed-problem with Origin downloads.

  • Hey!

Same problem here, only with Mass Effect 1. Stuck at 22-26 kB/s.

I bought the game on Origin (very relucant, I already own a copy, but Origin won't accept my Mass Effect 1 CD-Key.), because its the only way I know to get the Pinnacle Station DLC if you haven't got it yet.

Download speeds with Steam, Youtube etc are fine, about 800kB/s. But Mass Effect has been downloading for 12 hours now and i'm at 8%.

Please do something about this, I had to buy a game I already own and now I can't even play it :-(

  • Well, I do not have an answer - but I can report that my download speed did NOT increase at any time during the download of Omega. ;(

But thanks for the tip, I own ME1 on steam, and I wanted Pinnacle Station as well - I would have repurchased on Origin but not with this download problem. Sorry, poster, that I do not have an answer - but I can report that Origin continues to slooowly download while you play games on steam (bonus points if you are in offline mode), so hopefully that can keep you busy whilst you wait? ;(

    Cheers.
