EQUIPMENT | Armor Set and Set Bonuses. You agree?

More food for thought.

We have some sets of armors that are, in a way, already synergistic one with the other. It's common knowledge that SET ITEMS and equipment are very popular in many genres of RPG, where you actually have additional bonuses whenever you equip them all, as if they are fully optimized. Which could translate that if you simply mixed completely alien technologies could, or not, provide penalties as well.

What are you thoughts on this?

P.S.: just for the sake of brainstorming, if or not possible to happen in this MEA or in a future game.

Getting set bonuses would be pretty cool. The only problem is the many things like profiles, armor and weapons give extra effects as it is although I would like the idea of having a full set of n7 armor and getting an extra buff.

I find it odd they did not do that although I think the motive was a combination of balance control since some set would be broken powerful and so that you did not feel forced into using a full set for specific bonuses.   In game you already have the sets like Helios defender which is only 2 piece suit that basically acts like set bonus item.

  • Yup definitely.  Actually am already using armor sets, using different pieces just looks too weird.

Personally, I always mix my armor in Andromeda and kind of felt like the bonus was adding all those stats up.  I say that because I miss out on the stats a set of armor provides.

That being said, I wouldn't mind there being some kind of bonus for a matching set.  However, I don't feel like that bonus should be a stat but some unique trait instead.

I say trait because I feel like powers are something you control and traits would just be something innate.  So with a full set of N7, perhaps you auto cloak when your shields disappear for 3 seconds.

I don't know.  Something like that but I'd also like a skill I could invest in that would allow me to take the set bonus of a chest piece if I put a point in it.

For example, if it were in Combat Fitness, I'd be able to pick between that and something else.

But I wouldn't be opposed to the traditional method of set bonuses even if I did personally miss out entirely, I just think the above would be a more interesting (possibly better) way to go.

Yeah, I get your point but the set bonuses wouldnt give you that much edge to make your character unbalanced and overpowered (if its not already), just a slight extra something that'd make your life easier. Not talking about 30% power bonus or something since the profiles and your skill tree provides you that, and there are the fusion mods as well.

For example there's the Pathfinder set. A full set would help you to find the quests with no quest marker much easier - some hint on the map with a large radius for a room of error. The remnant set would allow you to hack sudoku puzzles without decryption key.

So these wouldnt make you overpowered, yet would make the game better, and you wouldnt miss that much out if you wouldnt want to stick to just a certain set. Obviously not many people are using a full set of a certain type since you can mix powers as you see fit and you may end up using 2-3 different types of armor to make the perfect build. There's no problem with that, but if somebody want to use a full set of something they could get some little extra.
