Here's Where I Think ME:A is Better Than the Original Series

Yes, a pat on the back thread - because I want to see, and buy, more.

1) The original series tried to convince me for two games that putting a vehicle in there was a good idea, and couldn't. You did it in one.

2) You're funnier. There were great lines in the first one, and they were especially funny when they were willing to poke fun at me and themselves like with Citadel, but you are more hit than miss with the humor - and there's a ton of it. I also really like that *I* get to be funny and am not stuck playing the straight man so much of the time.

3) You took the banter and third party conversations from the first games and ran with it. Bigger is *definitely* better here.

4) Combat, strung together with choices, romance, and cutscenes, (or the latter three interrupted by combat) is what ME is about. I like the combat better than the original series.

5) Putting the crew aside, because there was no way you were going to get me to like them more than the old one (especially in a single game), the supporting cast of NPC's is broader, deeper, and better. There's some hit and miss - but only because of sheer volume of material.

6) Decisions made me think, and weigh the options and outcomes, more than they did the last series. I never thought I might later regret making a choice in the original one. They feel like I am doing big things and deciding fates and shouldn't just gut check and shrug them off.

7) I feel like I am actually getting to define the role instead of picking from paragon or renegade versions of the one I was given. That feeling is why I'm cranky when I can't pick exactly what I want from the options. I both love and hate that... but I am getting invested in a way I never was with Shep.

Okay, I'm done. Thanks for reviving the ME universe, I look forward to seeing what all you do with it.

  • I really like some of the choices if you put your mindset that Ryder is gung ho about exploring. It makes your interaction with Peebee a lot of fun and not annoying. You basically feed off of each other.

Heh. If a scolding will make you feel better: PandaTar! Bad dog! No biscuit!

Just trying to put it back on the rails. I'd like to flatter myself that I'm doing such a good job selling it that everyone feels they need to add a little something as counterargument to balance that out... but I'm not buying that. 🙂

Nothing wrong with a handful of...

Oh wait, I read that wrong 😉
