How to get patch 1.02 to work?
So, I've tried to follow these instructions that were posted:
In order to play Mass Effect 1 on Windows 7 or Windows 8, please patch your game to the latest patch.
You can check the file "MassEffect.exe" and make sure that it's dated July 17, 2009, or later.
If it's older, you can download patch 1.02 here:

If you get the error message "Mass Effect not found ...", please run Origin as admin. To do that close your Origin client if it is already running. Right-click on the Origin icon on your desktop and choose "Run as administrator" to start your Origin client. (Thanks mnercurial303 for this information.)
If you still get "Mass Effect not found ...", follow these steps:
1. Open "Notepad" (or any other text editor.)
2. Do a "File -> Save".
3. Name the (empty) file "MassEffectLauncher".
4. Close the file.
5. Open "Windows File Explorer" and rename the file from "MassEffectLauncher.txt", to "MassEffectLauncher.exe"
6. Copy the file "MassEffectLauncher.exe" to the game's root program folder ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\").
7. Run the 1.02 patch.
I'm fine until I get to #5... The file name only shows up as "MassEffectLauncher" not "MassEffectLauncher.txt" when I change the name from "MassEffectLauncher" to "MassEffectLauncher.exe" I can still see in the properties of the file that it's extension is still labeled as ".txt" So what am I doing wrong? I would really appreciate some assistance in this matter as soon as someone gets a moment. Thank you.
