how to get the EMS to 5000?
how do I get the EMS to 5000 so I can get the perfect ending where Shepard is alive?

With the "Extended Cut" (EC) the EMS needed to achieve that ending was reduced to 3500 (IIRC).
I've chosen that path a couple of times with different characters, although since I seldom play MP my Galatic Readiness is almost always 50%.
But as for that being the "perfect" ending... I call no ending perfect that requires the death of either Shepard or EDI. 😕mileyfrustrated:

3100, to be more precise. In the original cut, 4000 was enough, but it required a timed interruption.
You can get 3100 by just playing the ME3 single player. It helps to play ME1 and 2, as well as multiplayer, but that is not required. This was, however, required to get the necessary score for the original cut.
