I agree with you, they drop the ball on this one, I've been playing the Mass Effect trilogy since the beginning and I fine that it is a far better game even though theses games have some hiccups in them, now that I've started playing MEA again for the fourth or fifth time I fine that there's no emotional feel for it and there's way too many loose ends. Even though it's 634 yrs later nobody thought about Earth or wonder if Shepard and his crew survived the battle, If the people of these gaming companies continue to go in that direction they could loose a lot of fans.

Dear maurice1959, do you know what a elite military unit from your country's armed forces is doing?
These people who left the milky way are probably just average Joe and Jane who heard on the news that the colony's where being attacked by pirates 600+years ago

Sorry Maurice, you're off base on this one. People in game do reminisce about the MW. In addition,
Spoilerwe find out that Alec, Jien, and the Benefactor have hidden the Reaper invasion from everyone.- 7 years ago

I just thought of something, when I was playing the game this morning, I think The Benefactor is ( Cerberus). If they can bring back Commander Shepard and re-build the Normandy SR-1 into the SR-2 they can build theses Arks with the help of a lot of powerful supporters, mine you I could be wrong.

While there are a number of things that could point to Cerberus/The Illusive Man, there are others that don't. Namely, why help build arks for the other races? You could say it would be an easy way to eliminate a large number of them, but it seems like a lot of resources to put into the plan.

Two things about that. 1) they all knew it was a one way trip so there wasn't much sense in looking back, 2) the Arks launched before the Reaper's actually invaded. Garson, Ryder and the benefactor moved up the launches because they knew it was coming. So if only a few people aboard the Arks even knew, then the masses won't be wondering about unknown-to-them Reapers or an incarcerated Shepard.
