Mass Effect (1) crashes

Hi, greetings from Belgium and Happy new year to every one.

First of all, I would like to thank you for making probably one of the best Sci-fi rpg in History,
the saga Mass Effect.

I recently bought the mass effect trilogy on PC.

I installed the first one and finished it with "only" 3 crashes (first gotrough lv50 in 37 hours).
So I installed the second one (got a problem with the first disk of the installer, so I downloaded it)
Worked like a charm after 4-5 hours of game I thought myself why not replay the first one to have the lv 60 import
bonuses.
That's where the problem started ...
I launched mass effect 1 choose a new game + and after the intro , just before exiting the Normandy (while Anderson make a speech
to the team) the game crashed. With no return to desktop, screen freezes and I have to manually reboot my PC.
And it crashed every single time on the same event.

I know ME has sound issue. And I try everything I read in the forum.
Software mode - hardware mode lower the settings - play windowed ...
Reinstall new OpenAL soft (event replace the DLL with new one)
Tweaking the .ini
Repair the install
nothing seems the work.

It get worse, I got now the same type of crashes in ME 2.

So I uninstall the whole thing (ME and ME2) and reinstall a fresh ME.
Guess what ? exactly the same crash on the same moment (while Anderson make a speech
to the team).


Is it hopeless ?


My spec

Intel core 2 duo E6750 2.6Ghz
6 gigs of ram
1To HDD
GeForce GTX 550 Ti (last driver 310.70)
Sound Blaster X-fi Titanium (driver up to date)
Fresh install of win7 pro 64 bits (2-3 month old) and up to date)

I am monitoring the heat and it is quite good
GPU 50-55° while playing  30° not playing        
CPU 40-47° while playing (brand new fan)  23° not playing
So it is definitely NOT a heat issue !

By the way, i am  playing

Painkiller
Titan Quest
Dead Space
Stalker
Oblivion
Diablo 3

Lotro
Star wars the old republic
Fear
Super Street fighter 4 AE
Street fighter x Tekken

They work like a Charm and i run most of them maxed out at 1650x1080@60Hz.

I can of course, paste a dxdiag too, but it's long

    works like a charm now.

    So problem solved.

    Save your savedata folder or put it in other place so the game give you a new folder . See if you try a new fresh game, maybe it will work.

    Or try to get a savedata from somebody and see if it works from that person save.
